Best MLB player prop today 5/19 - Otto's struggles continue

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Glenn Otto (49) throws during the first inning against the Boston Red Sox at Globe Life Field.

Happy Thursday! It’s been a great week of baseball and we have a solid slate of MLB games today, but there’s one player prop that I really like. Before that, be sure to check out our full game previews for tonight’s matchups.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Glenn Otto (TEX) under 4.5 strikeouts (-134)

Glenn Otto does not appear to be ready for the big leagues. The 26-year-old made 6 starts in 2021 and accumulated an 0-3 record with a 9.26 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. It’s hard to get much worse than that, but through 4 starts in 2022, Otto has a 6.38 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Unsurprisingly, Otto has control issues as his 12.3% walk rate and .319 xBA indicate these terrible outings have been no fluke and Otto’s statistics show that positive starts are not in his future.

Through 10.0 innings on the road, Otto has recorded only 7 strikeouts. He will face an Astros team that has struck out only 48 times in the last 6 games, which is one of the better ratios in baseball in that time. Otto is coming off his worst start of the season against the Red Sox, in which he was tagged for 8 runs on 8 hits in .04 innings while also recording 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Houston should knock Otto out of the game in the 4th or 5th innings, so the righty probably won’t have enough time to record 5 or more strikeouts.

Back the Houston offense to get to Otto early and often and take the under 4.5 for his strikeouts.
