After an entertaining Week 0 slate, the 2022 college football season kicks off in full this weekend. Last weekend’s games served as a nice appetizer, but the true chase for a National Championship begins in Week 1.

But before we can think about the College Football Playoff, there’s an entire season of football for us to enjoy. With a full slate of games this week, there are plenty of matchups that can fit a standard 2-team Wong teaser. The goal of a 6-point Wong teaser is to maximize the value of your bet by teasing both selections through the key numbers of 3 and 7.

Let’s take a look at our best teaser picks for Week 1 of the college football season.

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Teaser leg 1: Illinois +7.5 vs Indiana

Illinois got its 2021 season off to an impressive start, as the Fighting Illini dominated Wyoming to the tune of a 38-6 scoreline. New starting quarterback Tommy DeVito looked in command of an offense that was bottom 10 in the nation a season ago. DeVito completed 73 percent of his throws and tossed 2 touchdowns, which should give him confidence for this Big Ten matchup. Illinois featured a top 30 defense in 2021, the Indiana offense shouldn’t present a challenge. Whether Tom Allen names Connor Bazelak or Jack Tuttle as the starting quarterback, the Illini defense should have an edge. Illinois running back Chase Brown ran for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns last week, as Bret Bielema’s group looked sharp in the trenches.

I don’t anticipate the extra week of rest helping the Hoosiers as the wrong team is favored in this one. I like Illinois to win outright, so I’ll certainly play the Illini as a 6-point teaser gets us through the key numbers of 3 and 7. With an extremely low total projected for this matchup, that only strengthens my teaser position.

Teaser leg 2: Army +8 vs Coastal Carolina

Both Army and Coastal Carolina are coming off strong seasons from a year ago, but the Chanticleers are in a drastically different position this season. Coastal Carolina is 23-2 over the last 2 seasons, but Jamey Chadwell’s group has a lot to replace this fall. Grayson McCall is back at quarterback to lead an offense that is replacing its entire receiving corps and most of its offensive line. On defense, the Chanticleers will have to replace 9 starters from a solid unit in 2021. This defense will be a work in progress early on in the season, as most of the linebacking corps and defensive line is inexperienced.

Army is not the team that an inexperienced roster would like to face to open the season. The Black Knights are fundamentally sound under coach Jeff Monken and are coming off an 8-4 season a year ago. Senior quarterback Tyhier Tyler will start at quarterback while both starting running backs also return for Army. On defense, the Black Knights return star linebacker Andre Carter, plus most of their starters in the secondary. With the line bet down to under 3 points, putting Army as our second teaser leg is a no-brainer.
