I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After a light Thursday, the MLB is back in full force on Friday. Teams are beginning to feel the effects of attrition, as more and more players are finding themselves on the injured list as the season wears on. While that can cause hesitation with wanting to back a team for a full game, we have another avenue for profit. We can target whether or not a run will be scored within the 1st inning. That means we can boost your bankroll in just about 15 minutes! Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at my 2 favorite YRFI/NRFI bets for today.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago White Sox: YRFI (-110)

Clashes between NL West and AL Central teams seem to be the theme of the week, so that’s where we’re headed for our first play. The White Sox just scored in the 1st inning of all 3 games of their series against the Orioles, and now head back to Chicago.

Their home ballpark of Guaranteed Rate Field ranks 3rd for home runs. That’s something they can take advantage of against Diamondbacks rookie starter Tommy Henry. This will be just his 5th career start, and he has quite a tough matchup ahead of him. The Sox are the 6th-best lineup against lefties this season, and have been as high as the top spot. That should only get more potent as there’s even a chance Eloy Jimenez returns for this game. Even if he doesn’t, they’ve shown that Luis Robert and Jose Abreu are more than enough to get the job done. They’re both hitting over .300 on the year and Abreu has the most hits in the American League.

The Diamondbacks don’t have anyone quite that high, but they can also produce against Sox starter Johnny Cueto. That’s been the case for them in hitter-friendly conditions. There was a run scored in all 3 games in their home series against the Cardinals, and they did so in each of their last 2 games against the Rockies. They’ve been led by the power of Christian Walker and his 30 home runs are the 4th-most in the National League. Cueto even allowed a 1st-inning run to the AL-worst A’s recently, so either team can come through with this play.

Cleveland Guardians vs Seattle Mariners: NRFI (-150)

Unfortunately we’ll have to wait for the late night game for this play, but these teams should make it worth it. They should correct that anomaly of yesterday’s 1st inning, as there wasn’t a single run scored in the game after that. It’s the lowest total on the board, and for good reason.

Each team will have their ace on the mound to back that up. That means Shane Bieber for the Guardians. He hasn’t allowed a 1st-inning run in 13 of his last 15 starts, and should follow up Triston McKenzie’s performance from last night. He doesn’t have a history against rookie leadoff man Julio Rodriguez, but Jesse Winker is just 2-for-11 against Bieber. Seattle even moved Ty France down in the lineup during the week in the midst of their struggles producing against the league-worst Nationals.

The Guardians top-of-the-order has also changed throughout the year, and now faces Mariners Logan Gilbert. He may not be the listed ace, but he has as many wins as lefty Robbie Ray. He’s out for his 11th win, all while facing the Yankees and Astros for 4 straight starts, and Houston 4 times throughout the year. Gilbert was even able to keep the AL-best Astros from scoring in the 1st inning both times he faced them at home. The home-field advantage should help again tonight. T-Mobile Park in Seattle ranks 27th for extra-base hits and 28th for overall runs. The biggest threat to ruining this prop is Jose Ramirez. However, he is just 1-for-5 against Gilbert, so don’t expect early action in this last game of the night.
