MLB Picks Today: Expert Predictions & Best Bets for Saturday, May 30, including Cubs vs Cardinals

Since graduating from Davidson (The College That Stephen Curry Built), I have been writing about sports -- just about any and all you can think of! -- and coaching tennis in Atlanta, GA. Beyond the four major sports, I am an avid tennis fan and cover the ATP Tour on a daily basis. If I'm not busy writing, you can generally find me on a tennis court or traveling the world wherever a sporting event takes me. For Ricky Dimon media enquiries, please email contact@pickswise.com.

The week in Major League Baseball continues with a more-than-full 15-game slate on Saturday, headlined by a couple regionally televised showdowns on FOX at 7:15 PM ET when the Cardinals host the Cubs and the Braves visit the Reds. Other matchups include Royals vs. Rangers on FS1 and Phillies vs. Dodgers.

Here are my best bets for Saturday’s slate, and don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for predictions on EVERY game throughout the 2026 season.

Toronto Blue Jays ML over Baltimore Orioles (-122)

The Blue Jays are rolling along nicely with 8 wins in their last 10 games, climbing to .500 on the heels of a disastrous start to their 2026 campaign that perhaps stemmed from a World Series hangover. For all of Toronto’s problems, none have been the fault of Saturday starter Trey Yesavage. The right-hander is sporting a 2.25 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with a 35-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 32.0 innings so far this season. Further, Yesavage has allowed more than 2 runs only once in 6 appearances. The Jays took each of the first 2 games in this series, both by a single run (2-1 and 6-5), and it would be no surprise if they continue their march toward a potential 4-game sweep.

St. Louis Cardinals +1.5 over Chicago Cubs (-152)

The Cardinals took a wild series opener 6-5 on Friday after each team scored 3 runs in the first inning and the 2 sides combined for 20 hits. Chicago will try to strike back with Ben Brown on the mound this afternoon. Brown has been solid so far as a starter in 2026, but the sample size is small – only 4 of his 16 appearances have been starts. St. Louis is countering with Kyle Leahy, who has compiled a 2.95 ERA in the month of May. That mark features 11.1 innings of work with only 2 earned runs allowed at home.  This projects to be another extremely competitive contest between division rivals, so the Cardinals have great value getting 1.5 runs at home.

Atlanta Braves ML over Cincinnati Reds (-136)

The Braves have bounced back from a rare 2-game losing streak by getting their current road trip off to a strong start. They are 3-1 on the trek and have won 2 straight, clobbering Boston 10-2 and Cincinnati 8-3. The visitors, who own the best record in the entire league at 39-18, should be able to keep things rolling with Martin Perez on the mound. To say that Perez has been a pleasant surprise in Atlanta would be a gross understatement. The 35-year-old Spaniard comes in with a 2.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 40-to-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 46.2 innings. Perez figures to get plenty of run support, too, from an offense that has generated the 2nd-most runs in all of Major League Baseball. The party will likely continue for Atlanta at the expense of Brady Singer, who is 2-4 with a disastrous 6.26 ERA in 2026.
