The 2022 MLB season is winding down, but we still have a full slate of games on Sunday. The NL East battle of the Mets vs. Braves will be the last ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game of the season, and we have a same game parlay for it here. We aren’t targeting that game for these plays, so we’ll be heading out west instead. They aren’t playoff-deciding matchups, so it makes sense to isolate the 1st inning and avoid any other variables. By doing so, we can profit in about 15 minutes and boost our bankroll for Monday Night Football tomorrow.

Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at my 2 favorite YRFI/NRFI bets for today.

Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Angels: YRFI (-115)

As promised, we’re heading out west for a divisional battle between the Rangers and Angels. The entire AL West has been looking up at the Astros all season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t profit off of this game.

The Angels won’t have Shohei Ohtani on the mound, which helps this play right off the bat. Baseballs have been flying off of bats in Angels Stadium, too, as it ranks 8th for home runs. That’s helped Ohtani and Mike Trout each rack up over 30 home runs. The Rangers didn’t announce a starter until early this morning, and they’re going with Tyson Miller. He’s had just 3 appearances this season and only 1 was a start. He allowed 6 runs before the end of the 1st inning, so Ohtani and Trout should feast today.

Those 2 former MVP winners will be supporting lefty Tucker Davidson. The Rangers are a top-10 lineup against lefties this season and have proven it against Davidson, specifically. The power of Adolis Garcia and Corey Seager combined to score a run in the 1st inning against him in his most recent start. Prior to that outing, Davidson allowed 4 and 7 runs in just 8.1 innings across 2 starts. Along with Garcia and Seager, the Rangers have home run-hitter Marcus Semien and Nate Lowe, one of the hits leaders, at the top of the lineup. The Rangers have already proven they can hit Davidson well, and with Ohtani and Trout facing an unknown inexperienced starter you can expect early fireworks in LA.

Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Dodgers: YRFI (-110)

We’re not going far for our second play. The Rockies and Dodgers are also playing out in LA and should add to the fireworks across the street at the Angels game. It’s surprising Dodger Stadium has any fireworks left with how much the Dodgers have produced this season.

They lead the MLB in runs scored by a landslide. That shouldn’t be too surprising when you talk about their top 3 hitters. Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have already won MVP awards and Trea Turner is a candidate for this year’s. Those sluggers will be hitting Rockies starter German Marquez. To say that’s an ideal matchup would be an understatement. He is tied with Patrick Corbin for the most earned runs allowed this season at 100. Many of those runs have come in the 1st inning, as Marquez has allowed a 1st-inning run in each of his last 4 starts.

The Colorado lineup also has a solid matchup. They are facing lefty Tyler Anderson, and the Rockies have the 5th-highest OPS against lefties this season. They have also already proven it against Anderson. Despite his 15-4 record, Colorado scored a run in the 1st inning each of the first 2 times it saw him this season. The Dodgers even went on to lose both of those starts, further proving that the Rockies are not intimidated by LA. Both teams are just cruising to the end of the regular season, so expect them to let loose in advantageous matchups.
