I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’ve had just 2 days of Wild Card games, and it’s already been a crazy start to the 2022 MLB playoffs. Just last night we witnessed a 15-inning game that ended with just a single run and a team blowing a 7-run lead for just the 3rd time in MLB postseason history. However, those games also meant the winning teams took those series 2-0. The Phillies did the same last night, meaning we’re left with just 1 game in the Wild Card round on Sunday. Let’s break down how the 1st inning of that matchup between the Padres and Mets should play out so you can profit in about 15 minutes. Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB analysis for all of the upcoming postseason games!

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bet for today.

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets: NRFI (-138)

First and foremost, this price is listed at FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing. It’s worth noting as it’s as expensive as -165 on other notable sportsbooks. Regardless, we still believe tonight’s finale between the Padres and Mets should get off to a slow start.

There has been a run scored in the 1st inning in each of the first 2 games, so it’s only fitting that there should be none tonight. The Padres took their turn in the opener, the Mets took theirs last night, and tonight, no one gets a turn. After having Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom on the mound for the first 2 games, the Mets will be leaning on Chris Bassitt to shut down the Padres tonight.

He pitched against them earlier this season in a game that ended with just 3 total runs. There was no run scored in that 1st inning, and the same was the case for Padres starter Joe Musgrove. When he faced the Mets in that previous series, there were more runs scored, but none in the 1st inning. Bassitt has had a 15-win season and Musgrove was once in the conversation for the NL Cy Young award, so expect a slower start in Queens tonight.
