Sundays in the MLB mean plenty of afternoon baseball. Better yet, we are blessed with an even earlier game today, as the Padres and Braves have a morning start time at 11:35am ET. After each team has taken a game in the series thus far, Sunday will be the series-deciding game. Both teams have postseason aspirations, but are still chasing their respective division leaders. Let’s take a look at who will be able to inch closer by Sunday evening. Along with this same game parlay, be sure to check out our thoughts on the side and total.

Braves -1.5 (+155)

Dansby Swanson over 1.5 total bases (+180)

Marcell Ozuna over 1.5 total bases (+125)

Parlay odds: +800

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our 8/1 same game parlay:

Braves -1.5 (+155)

Sunday kicks off with an early, series-deciding game between the defending world champs and one of the biggest disappointments of 2021. The lineups are a bit different with the Braves losing Freddie Freeman and the Padres without Fernando Tatis Jr., but this has still been a great series so far. Atlanta came up with some clutch hitting in yesterday’s comeback win, and should be able to do so again on Sunday.

Despite Ronald Acuna Jr. being able to return for only a few games, the Braves still find themselves in the top 10 in terms of team OPS. They’ll need to perform to that level against Joe Musgrove, who has had some good starts recently. He’s taken on some weaker lineups, so Matt Olson and company should be quite the upgrade. Atlanta does not appear to be using this game as a rest day as they continue to chase the Mets atop the division. Starter Kyle Wright started out the season with 28 strikeouts across 3 starts, all of which were multiple runs wins. This rubber match has an early start, but the Braves’ bats should wake up to support Wright.

Dansby Swanson over 1.5 total bases (+180)

There’s no doubt Joe Musgrove has had some strong starts this season. However, he’ll be taking on some hitters with prior success when facing him. First and foremost is Braves’ shortstop Dansby Swanson. Swanson has a .889 slugging percentage against Musgrove, which is crucial for total base props as it represents the total number of bases per at-bats. Of Swanson’s 26 hits on the season, he has 7 doubles, a triple, and 3 home runs. Each of those extra-base hits cashes this prop without the need for multiple hits. With this game being played in Truist Park, a park conducive to extra-base hits, Swanson’s total base prop becomes even more valuable.

Marcell Ozuna over 1.5 total bases (+125)

Look no further than yesterday’s game for Ozuna to easily handle his total base prop. His home run in the bottom of the 8th inning tied up the game 5-5 before the Braves took the lead. He should be able to perform well at the plate once again. He has 5 previous hits against Musgrove, 3 of which were doubles. He certainly has the power to go deep on any pitch, and put that on display in the Braves’ last series against the Padres. Ozuna had multiple bases in 3 of those 4 games, including 2 more home runs. It’s clear he has San Diego’s number this season, and should continue to do so in the series finale.
