MLB Thursday parlay at mega (+742 odds) today 9/22: San Diego shows up

San Diego Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar (left) celebrates with center fielder Jose Azocar (center) and right fielder Juan Soto (right) after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals at Petco Park.

Thursday’s MLB slate is not the largest since several teams are traveling for their next series, but we did identify 3 games in which we think there’s an edge. This parlay could pay out at over 7/1 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, so be sure to check this out.

But before we dive in, be sure to read our MLB picks for every side and total today.

Let’s get into our mega parlay for Thursday and break down each of the legs one by one.

San Diego Padres ML over St. Louis Cardinals (-135)

Jack Flaherty is not the same pitcher he used to be. In just 23 innings this season, the Cardinals ace has a 5.09 ERA and a 6.00 xERA. The most concerning part is that Flaherty has faced some of the worst offenses this season, so his high ERA is even more worrisome. In his last 2 starts, he has allowed 7 runs and 12 hits in 10 innings to the Pirates and Reds. For the Padres, Joe Musgrove has been their most consistent option. He has a 3.16 ERA matched with a 3.26 xERA this season and is coming off an excellent outing against the Diamondbacks. He threw 6 scoreless innings and surrendered only 4 hits while recording 8 strikeouts. Although the Cardinals’ lineup is more talented than San Diego’s, I have no faith in Flaherty.

Atlanta Braves -1.5 over Philadelphia Phillies (+115)

This exact matchup took place last week, and the Braves walked away with a 7-2 win. Atlanta did most of their damage against the Philadelphia bullpen, which has struggled tremendously in the last few weeks, including allowing 11 runs in Tuesday’s loss. The Braves lineup was held in check for the first half of the game against Ranger Suarez last time, and it’s hard to expect the lefty to have the same success in back-to-back starts. That’s especially true since the Atlanta offense has been one of the best lineups against left-handed pitching in 2022. But even if the Braves lineup can’t break through against Suarez, they should be able to against the below-average Phillies bullpen.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers under 6.5 runs (+125)

Zac Gallen and Julio Urias have been two of the best pitchers in baseball in the second half of the season. Gallen is Arizona’s ace, and since the all-star break, he has a 1.15 ERA in 11 starts. Opponents are hitting just .148 against him with a .202 OBP in that span. The opposing team has finished with 3 runs or less in 9 of his 11 starts, and as long as the Dodgers don’t go over this total themselves, this game should stay below the number. For Urias, he has a 1.31 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP in the second half of the season, and opponents are hitting just .169 against him. The Diamondbacks have struggled against left-handed pitchers in 2022, and Urias has been one of the best lefties in the game. This should be a low-scoring game from the first pitch to the last.
