FA Cup soccer pick today: Derby County +0.5 over West Ham (+105), 2:45 pm ET

West Ham claimed a crucial 2-0 Premier League win over Everton last weekend but there is value in fading the Hammers for this afternoon’s FA Cup trip to Derby. The Rams are going well in 4th place in League One, the third tier of English soccer, and their 2-1 win over promotion rivals Bolton made it 7 victories in their last 8 home games in all competitions, while they added another 2-1 win on the road at Port Vale on Tuesday.

West Ham has taken just 2 points from its last 8 EPL road games and may struggle to break down a solid Derby defense in a testing road trip. For that reason, backing Derby to win or draw will be the play.

NBA pick today: Los Angeles Lakers +8.5 over Brooklyn Nets (-110), 7:40 pm ET

Getting robbed like the Lakers were in the game against Boston over the weekend can do two things to your team. It can either rally the troops and motivate them to do better in the next one, or it can demoralize the entire squad and cause another loss. Normally I’d say the former, but the Lakers have just announced they are resting both LeBron James and Anthony Davis for tonight’s game, which means we’ll be in for a one-man performance of Russell Westbrook as he tries to will his team to an upset victory. Los Angeles has covered in 5 of 6 road games and in 5 straight vs the Eastern Conference.

LA also has 2 wins in a row in head-to-head meetings, but with James and Davis out, I’m not sure if they’ll have what it takes to win outright here. However, Nets haven’t been very consistent lately, so for that reason, backing the Lakers will be the play.

NHL pick today: Winnipeg Jets 3-Way ML over St. Louis Blues (-140), 8:07 pm ET

Tonight brings a Central Division showdown between the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues in the sole game of the night. In the two matchups thus far, Winnipeg has owned St. Louis, winning both games and outscoring them 9-2.

The Jets are on a three-game losing streak, but the Blues are the perfect opportunity to break it, because they have been much worse. St. Louis has lost four straight games and have averaged two goals per game during that time. Playing the Jets who own the league’s third best goals against average is not the matchup that can help them fix those miscues, especially playing on their home territory. For that reason, backing Winnipeg to win during regulation time will be the play.

College Basketball pick today: Baylor Bears +3.5 over Texas Longhorns (-105), 9:00 pm ET

Baylor comes into this game riding a 6-game winning streak, although they only narrowly escaped Arkansas on Saturday, despite playing at home. Texas comes off of a tough loss at Tennessee to a really talented Vol team, but otherwise, you would have to say that Texas has overcome a lot of controversy this season and has succeeded where many teams would have imploded.

I was excited to see that this line gives a few points to the Baylor side in what is likely to be a close and hard-fought game. I am not convinced that Texas has proven itself yet in the toughest conference in America. Road games in the Big 12 are nearly impossible, and the Longhorns may well win the game, but I do expect this one to be close. I am happy to take the points with what I think is the better team, therefore backing Baylor to cover will be the play.
