NFL Week 14 same game parlay (+1596 odds): New York Giants vs Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers gave their playoff hopes a real shot in the arm last time out by winning on the road at the Bengals to improve to 7-5 and are heavy favorites to record back-to-back wins for the first time since Week 5 when they host the Giants.

The Bolts have won the last four meetings with Big Blue but head into their latest encounter potentially shorthanded with top wide receiver Keenan Allen out and Mike Williams a doubt due to a COVID outbreak in the camp.

New York travel across the country with injuries problems of their own. Daniel Jones and Mike Glennon are struggling for fitness, presenting the Giants with a quarterback crisis. It looks like Glennon has cleared the concussion protocol, but he barely practiced.

We have put together a same game parlay for Sunday’s clash at SoFi Stadium, which pays out at odds of +1596.

Justin Herbert under 276.5 passing yards (-114)

Saquon Barkley over 58.5 rushing yards (-114)

Justin Herbert anytime touchdown scorer (+310)

Parlay odds: +1596

Justin Herbert under 276.5 passing yards (-114)

Justin Herbert continues to marvel in the NFL, throwing for over 300 yards for a third time in the last four games and the 15th occasion in his career overall. Since 1950, no quarterback has had more than 10 300-plus yard games in their first two seasons in the league and Herbert is blazing a trail on his way to stardom.

The sophomore completed over 74% of his passes against the Bengals, his third-highest completion percentage of the season, but may struggle to wrack up such an impressive stat line against this Giants defense. New York ranks eighth against the pass in DVOA and have allowed only one quarterback (Tom Brady) to throw for over 300 yards against them in the last seven games.

The defense has also had at least one turnover in all but one game this season and have been more than holding their end of the bargain. Herbert won’t find it easy to pass on this bend but don’t break Giants defense, particularly if he doesn’t have his favourite target Allen. The wideout has tested positive for COVID and the Bolts’ top receiver in 5 of the last 6 weeks looks unlikely to play. With Williams also a doubt due to being a close contact of Allen’s, LA could have a tough time moving the ball through the air.

Saquon Barkley over 58.5 rushing yards (-114)

Even in this most unpredictable of NFL seasons, it would be mad to expect the Giants to put this game all on Glennon. New York should lean on their rushing attack, and in particular Saquon Barkley.

This season is in danger of becoming another lost one for Barkley, who has once again been nagged by injuries throughout the year. He looked as healthy as he’s done all year against the Dolphins, rushing for 55 yards on 11 carries, while he also managed a further 19 yards through the air. It was far from a vintage Barkley performance but there was enough in the showing to suggest he can do more against a bad Chargers run defense.

The Bolts rank dead last against the run in DVOA and are giving up over 141 yards on average on the ground per game this season. They succeeded in limiting the impact of the Bengals’ rushing attack last week but, looking at the season as a whole, they could find it tough to repeat that performance.

Justin Herbert anytime touchdown scorer (+310)

We’ve seen a bit more of Herbert using his legs in recent weeks, the former Duck rushing for over 20 yards in three of the last four games. He could be forced to put those wheels to go use again on Sunday if the Giants can limit him in the passing game, opening the door for him to sneak in for a touchdown.

Herbert has got in the endzone twice this year and is facing a defense that has struggled to contain quarterbacks with scrambling skills. The Giants have given up a league-high five rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks this year and we like the price on Herbert getting in the endzone.
