College Basketball pick today: Michigan State Spartans -3 over Iowa Hawkeyes (-115), 7:00 pm ET

My favorite play of this game is Michigan State to cover the short 2.5-point spread. The Spartans are 5-4 in Big Ten play and need to keep winning their home games if they want to keep themselves firmly in the NCAA Tournament. I expect the Spartans to get going from beyond the arc on their home floor as they are ranked #31 in offensive 3-point percentage and Iowa has not guarded the 3-point line well at all. According to KenPom, Iowa is ranked #204 in defensive three-point percentage, which should give Michigan State an opportunity to take advantage. For that reason, backing the Spartans will be the play.

NHL pick today: Minnesota Wild 3-Way ML over Philadelphia Flyers (-155), 8:00 pm ET

Minnesota has shown it is a team that can run wild, especially against inferior opponents. Meanwhile, Philly has been flying low, specifically at the bottom of the Metro Division. Only the Columbus Blue Jackets have been worse, which is nothing to be proud of. The Flyers have been in shambles the last 2 seasons, and the Wild defeated them by 3 goals at home in their lone meeting at home last year. Since then, Philly has got rid of former captain Claude Giroux and done little to replace him. With the Wild’s offensive firepower led by Kirill Kaprizov, they simply have more talent than Philly.

NHL pick today: New Jersey Devils ML over Nashville Predators (-125), 8:07 pm ET

The big advantage in this game comes from each team’s offense and it favors the Devils. Since the start of the month, the Devils have easily been a top-5 offense. They rank 3rd in goals per game with a mark of 3.91 and have scored fewer than 3 goals in a game just once in their last 12 games. Compare that to the Predators, in the same time frame, who rank 19th in goals per game with a mark of 3.08, but have scored over two goals just once in their last 5 games. This gap in offenses is important because both teams rank right by each other in numerous defensive categories since the start of January. Look for the Devils attack to be the difference.

NBA pick today: Los Angeles Clippers -12.5 over San Antonio Spurs (-110), 10:40 pm ET

These teams played each other less than a week ago at AT&T Center and the Clippers came out on top 131-126 in a high-scoring game. The Spurs are 12.5-point underdogs, but they’ve covered the spread only once in their last 12 games against Pacific Division teams. In their last 10 games against the Clippers they have been outscored by 6.3 points per game and have won just 3 times. Blowouts are never easy to predict, especially since the Clippers have won by just 5 and 7 points in 2 of the teams’ 3 meetings this season. However, San Antonio will likely be a step slower here as it’s the second game in 2 days for them, and the Clippers last 2 wins have been by 18 and 14 points. For that reason, backing the Clippers will be the play tonight.
