Good morning, Pickswise Nation. The dog days of summer may be upon us with both the NBA and NHL having come to an end, but there is still plenty of sports action on the menu. Another week in Major League Baseball gets underway, there are CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and a deciding Game 3 in the College World Series has become necessary. It’s another big day in the world of sports, so let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Pickswise goes 2-0 on YRFI/NRFI plays
The Pickswise experts cashed the NRFI in both Marlins vs Pirates and Brewers vs Guardians, making for a successful day at the office. Our lone prop bet also proved to be a winner, as MacKenzie Gore of the Nationals allowed more than 4.5 hits to the Padres. Meanwhile, the Braves took their series against the red-hot Reds with a 7-6 victory and the Astros edged the Dodgers 6-5 in 11 innings on Sunday Night Baseball.

Florida forces Game 3
There will be a Game 3 decider in the championship of the College World Series, as Florida tied up SEC rival LSU 1-1 thanks to a 24-4 blowout on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers won the series opener 4-3 in 11 innings.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Detroit Tigers vs Texas Rangers Under 9 (+100)
8:05 pm ET, BSDT

Matthew Boyd is taking the mound for Detroit and he has a 5.37 ERA to go along with a 1.32 WHIP. His numbers do not represent his actual pitching skills, as he ranks just around average for most percentiles and has an xERA of 4.02. Boyd actually does a decent job at preventing hard-hit balls (72nd percentile) and has some upside in the strikeout category (54th percentile for K% and 86th percentile for chase rate). Pitching for the Rangers is Andrew Heaney (3.98 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). He sits in good company regarding his percentiles for xBA (53rd), K% (58th) and hard-hit percentile (54th). Detroit as a team ranks 29th in SLG, 27th in AVG, 19th in BB and 14th in Ks. We’re rolling with the under in this one. Check out our full Tigers vs Rangers predictions.

Stat of the Day

Despite losing 2-0 to the US Men’s National Team in the Nations League A Final, Canada has won 3 of its last 4 games by at least 2 goals heading into Tuesday’s CONCACAF Gold Cup matchup against Guadeloupe.

Quote of the Day

So we’re going to stick to how we prepare and roll it out tomorrow and give it everything we have. One game for the National Championship. I think [Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan] probably feels great about his team, as he should with the players they have. I feel great with my team with the players we have.”

— LSU head coach Jay Johnson following his team’s Game 2 loss in the College World Series championship round.
