Good morning, Pickswise Nation! There’s something for everyone in the world of sports today, with 3 MLB playoff games, plus college football, NHL and EPL soccer action, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Washington in command
Somehow, this week’s Thursday Night Football game managed to produce even fewer points than last week’s Broncos-Colts offering, but at least we got one touchdown last night. The Washington Commanders beat the Chicago Bears 12-7, and to show that smart picks can put a smile on your face whatever the standard of play, Pickswise went 2-0 on the game with our picks of Commanders +1 and under 38. Brian Robinson was also a recommended anytime TD scorer play at +235 odds.

Perfect picks on Mariners vs Astros
We were left with just one MLB game yesterday after Guardians vs Yankees was rained out, but it couldn’t have gone much better, as the Astros beat the Mariners 4-2. That cashed our Astros ML and under 7 plays, and we also hit with our MLB player prop and our Astros vs Mariners Same Game Parlay at +446 odds! Houston leads the series 2-0 as the teams head to Seattle for Game 3 tomorrow.

Baylor beaten
We hit both overs on Thursday’s college football games and were 1-1 on spreads after Baylor (-3.5) was upset 43-40 by West Virginia. UCF (-23) had no such issues, blowing out Temple 70-13.

Flames too hot for Stanley Cup champions
The biggest slate of the NHL season so far produced a number of upsets, with the Devils, Wild, Predators and Kings all losing as favorites. The Calgary Flames won their opener for the first time in 13 years, beating Stanley Cup champions the Avalanche 5-3.

Today’s Slate

Extra MLB playoff  game today
We have an additional MLB game today with the Guardians and Yankees aiming to play their rescheduled ALDS Game 2 at 1:00pm ET on TBS. Braves vs Phillies follows at 4:30pm ET on FS1 with Dodgers vs Padres at 8:30pm ET, also on FS1. Read today’s MLB predictions.

4-game NHL slate
It’s a quieter day in the NHL, with a 4-game slate that starts with Lightning vs Blue Jackets on NHL Network at 7:00 pm ET. Read today’s NHL picks.

Friday night lights are on
The UTSA Roadrunners are the only team with a winning record (4-2) in action tonight as they take on 2-3 Florida International at 8:00pm ET on CBSSN. Navy plays SMU on ESPN at 7:30pm ET. Read today’s NCAAF predictions. There’s also one EPL game today as Brighton plays Brentford (USA Network, 3:00pm ET) and you can check out our soccer picks for the weekend games.

Best Bet of the Day

NHL: Detroit Red Wings ML over Montreal Canadiens
7:05 pm ET, ESPN+

The Canadiens and Red Wings were among the worst teams in the Eastern Conference last season, but Detroit made plenty of noise in the offseason and they should show out for their season opener. The Habs opened up their season in Montreal against the Maple Leafs and now have to travel into the hostile environment of Little Caesars Arena. The Wings’ home ice may not have the most intimidating name, but opponents should be more fearful than they were last season. Detroit’s season-long points total is even set 10 points higher than they achieved last year, so oddsmakers agree. Ride the Wings on Friday night. Read our full Canadiens vs Red Wings predictions.

Quote of the Day

“Everybody keeps saying I didn’t want anything to do with Carson. I’m the guy that pulled out the sheets of paper, looked at the analytics, watched the tape when we were at Indianapolis, OK?”

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is unhappy at reports that he is not behind QB Carson Wentz.
