Good morning Pickswise Nation and welcome to Wise n’ Shine, your one-stop shop for everything you need to know to bet better today!

Well, what an NFL Sunday that was. There’s still one more Week 2 game to go tonight as the Lions take on the Packers, and we also have a 12-game MLB slate to consider. Let’s get straight to it!

About Last Night

Sunday Night Football thriller tops sensational day of NFL action
The NFL teams have been putting on a real show for the fans who returned to the stadium seats this season. Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay moved to 2-0 with a 48-25 win over Atlanta, but there was an upset in a thrilling late game as Super Bowl favorites Kansas City were edged 36-35 at Baltimore. The Chiefs remain favorites to regain the Vince Lombardi Trophy at +500, but the Bucs are now +550, with Lamar Jackson’s Ravens at +1400. Check out Ricky Dimon’s reaction to everything we saw in NFL Week 2.

Today’s Slate

Packers on a recovery mission
Green Bay will be hoping that the reversal of fortunes that happened to the team that beat them last week, New Orleans, also applies to them. The Saints won 38-3 in Week 1, only to lose 26-7 to Carolina yesterday. The Packers are 12-point favorites against Detroit as they bid to show that Saints game was a freak result too. Read our full preview of Lions vs Packers here.

MLB ready to roll
Some MLB Mondays can be quiet but there’s plenty going on today with a 12-game slate, including a doubleheader between the Royals and Indians. ESPN+ has a fascinating game at 7:10pm ET as the Blue Jays face the Rays. Check out our picks for all today’s MLB action here.

Best Bet of the Day

Over 48 points in Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers
8:15pm ET, ESPN

The Packers should have their way with the Lions’ run defense. That will obviously lead to points for the Packers. The question is, will the Lions hold up their end of the bargain? Yes, they can. Jared Goff used his running backs in the passing game more than any other quarterback in Week 1. If they get down, they should be able to move the ball the same way against the Packers. It may not be pretty, but this one should get over 48.

Stat of the Day

The Marlins are 24-50 on the road this season, but they have a winning record (39-36) at home.

Boost of the day

Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers to combine for over 56.5 points

Bettors expecting another lights-out primetime NFL game can take advantage of FanDuel Sportsbook boosting the odds of this alternative line total on Lions vs Packers from +230 to +260. The run of spectacular late games might not last forever, though — it’s the Texans against the Panthers on Thursday!
