NHL Best Bets Today: November 7 Picks & Predictions
A phenomenal 12-game NHL slate is on tap for hockey fans on Saturday. There are several true heavyweight bouts, and plenty of intriguing games up and down the docket. It all begins at 12:30PM ET and goes all throughout the afternoon and evening coast to coast. On an excellent sports day, the NHL is a feature and is in store to deliver in a big way. This is a day you will want to get your to-do list knocked out and post up to your favorite hockey-watching spot.
If you want to have a little bit of action while you watch, here are a few markets that caught our eye.
Pick 1: St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators over 5.5 (-130)
Pick 2: New Jersey Devils 3-way ML (+115) vs New York Islanders
Pick 3: Oilers win and game total over 6.5 (+115) vs Vancouver Canucks
St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators over 5.5 (-130)
The Blues and Predators have already met once this year in a game Nashville won 5-2. In addition to their 7-goal total in the first head to head game, the over has hit in 4 out of the last 5 played between them. The over looks good again considering recent trends of Nashville scoring and St. Louis having leaky goal prevention.
The Preds have either scored or allowed 4+ goals in 7 out of their last 9 games including their win over the Blues. They enter this game in solid form too, having won 3 straight over very impressive teams. During that span, they scored 12 total goals against the Lightning, Hurricanes, and Avalanche for an average of 4 goals scored per game. That is good against any team in hockey, let alone strong teams like Tampa, Carolina, and Colorado.
Entering Saturday, St. Louis has allowed 12 goals in their last 3 games. However, the Blues’ ability to score could push the Preds and drive the total. St. Louis has scored 4+ goals in 3 out of their last 4 games, and are 2-1-1 during that stretch. Both teams are decent, but are finding their identity and trying to make an impact on the division. Look for a strong effort from both teams, and for recent trends to drive a second over in as many head to head games this season.
New Jersey Devils 3-way ML (+115) vs New York Islanders
The Devils are arguably the hottest team in hockey. They are 9-2-0 in their last 11 games, and as of Friday they are the only team in the NHL that has 8 wins in their respective last 10 games. The Devils have scored 14 goals in their current 3-game winning streak, and have scored 4+ goals in 4 out of their last 5 games. In addition to great form right now, New Jersey will have a little extra chip on their shoulder. Last month, the Islanders blanked the Devils 6-0. A different looking team now, the Devils will come out with a little extra jam to prove that was a fluke.
It has not been ugly for the Islanders. But ultimately, they have 2 wins in their last 6 games entering this one. They look to be vulnerable right now and the Devils will not make things any easier. Among NHL ranks, the Islanders rank 6th in goals allowed per game. That is slipping a little bit, as they have allowed 9 goals in their last 2 games as part of 24 goals allowed in their last 6 games. With their league-ranked 24th goals scored per game and 29th power play, it is not a recipe for success right now. Taking a hot team like the Devils to win in regulation at plus odds has plenty of appeal.
Oilers win and game total over 6.5 (+115) vs Vancouver Canucks
This will already be the 3rd installment of the 4-game season series between the Canucks and Oilers. These teams have gone in very different directions since they met in back to back games to begin the season. Since they split the first 2 games, the Oilers have since gone 10-3-2 and the Canucks have gone 2-13-1. It is not horribly surprising. The Canucks are a rebuilding team while the Oilers are a deep team with a couple of the best players on the planet. Vancouver has lost 4 straight as part of a current 1-13-1 run, and Edmonton is looking to get back in the win column after 2 losses. The Oilers are in a good spot to run up the score.
The 2 games played between these teams at the start of the year were nothing if not exciting. The Canucks beat the Oilers in overtime by a score of 6-5. Then Edmonton responded with a 9-7 win over Vancouver. While the Oilers have certainly tightened things up in the month since playing the Canucks, they are still firing on the offensive side of the puck. The Oilers sit atop the NHL in goals scored per game with 4.12, and their 33.9% power play percentage is good for 3rd in the league. Paired up against Vancouver’s NHL-worst 4.61 goals allowed per game and 31st-ranked 63.3% penalty kill, the over looks great in addition to Edmonton outright. Adding the over gives nice plus money odds to this one.
