The chaos that is college football is in full swing after another top-two team lost over the weekend. Now into Week 10, the College Football Playoff picture is cloudier than it’s ever been, but there are plenty of matchups this week to help clear things up – and when I say plenty, I mean plenty. Not only will we get the long-awaited Miami vs. Notre Dame rematch, but college football fans will also be treated to BYU vs. Utah, Texas vs. Missouri, LSU vs. Alabama, Kentucky vs. Tennessee and Georgia vs. Ole Miss. A Big Ten clash between Oregon and Ohio State also packs a punch as far as program pedigree goes, but this matchup will look much different than what we thought it would look like before the year began.

Ahead of the first official College Football Playoff rankings, which will be revealed Tuesday night at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN, it’s time to look at the early lines and odds for Week 10 before we cap it off with our usual best bet from the bunch. After a rocking-chair winner on Duke last week, I’m looking for my fifth straight early-week best bet winner. Don’t forget to check Pickswise throughout the week for our CFB predictions on every FBS matchup through the postseason.

CFB W10 Early Best Bet: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -4.5 over Miami Hurricanes (-117)

Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish may not admit it out loud, but I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that the Notre Dame locker room has had this game circled for almost a year. I’m sure you would, too. Getting this game in South Bend only helps the Irish from a situational perspective.

Oddsmakers have the top team in the country as more than a field-goal underdog on the road in this matchup, which is a strong indication of Notre Dame’s edge in their power ratings. It makes sense, the ‘Canes haven’t been looking completely invincible lately despite the undefeated record. They really could have lost at home to Florida State, and last week’s game in Chapel Hill was too close for comfort. Now on the road for the second straight week, this time against a program and fan base that has it out for you after being snubbed from last season’s playoff, the sloppy mistakes will likely be punished by the Irish.

Miami’s defense isn’t perfect this year. The Hurricanes have struggled in the secondary, and they haven’t stuffed the run as efficiently as last year. Penalties have also been an issue for Mario Cristobal’s squad, as they rank 91st nationally in that regard, where Notre Dame is #1 in the country.

Notre Dame usually takes money no matter what, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see -6 pop at some point. I’m fine with it up to that point, as I’m looking for an Irish win in the ballpark of 7-10 points.
