MLB Picks Today: Expert Predictions & Best Bets for Wednesday, July 29, including Yankees vs White Sox & Braves vs Mets
The week in Major League Baseball continues with a more than full 16-game slate on Wednesday, as the Braves and Mets are playing a doubleheader following Tuesday’s rainout. The day's action gets started with Phillies vs Marlins at 12:10 pm ET and goes right the way through to a 10:10 pm ET first pitch for Mariners vs Dodgers. Also on the schedule are Rangers vs Rays, Yankees vs White Sox and Cubs vs Cardinals, while the Battle of Ohio concludes with Guardians vs Reds. Let's get into my MLB best bets for Wednesday, July 29, while you can also get our expert MLB picks for all 16 games today.
MLB best bet: Baltimore Orioles vs Detroit Tigers Under 8 (-110)
Detroit is handing the ball to Tarik Skubal (for the last time?). Skubal comes in with a 2.70 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 110-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 90.0 innings of work. The current Orioles lineup is a combined 5-for-29 (.172) lifetime against the southpaw with 13 strikeouts. They did not score a single run against the Tigers during Tuesday’s loss, and it wouldn’t be shocking if something similar transpires on Wednesday.
Baltimore is countering with Trevor Rogers, who has been absolutely on fire. Rogers has surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in his last 7 starts spanning 43.2 innings. His worst outing in this stretch is 6.0 innings of 2-run baseball. Expect a low-scoring clash in Detroit today.

MLB best bet: Atlanta Braves ML over New York Mets (Game 2) (-157)
Atlanta can never be trusted when anyone other than Chris Sale is on the mound. Fortunately for the visitors, it will be Sale going for them in the 2nd leg of Wednesday’s twin bill in New York. The veteran southpaw is 11-6 this season with a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a dominant 134-to-26 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 111.0 innings. Sale compiled 11 strikeouts compared to only 1 free pass in his most recent outing last Thursday, a 6-5 win over San Diego.
Moreover, the Braves destroyed the Mets 14-3 the last time Sale faced this same opponent on July 4. Playing at Citi Field is not necessarily an advantage for the Mets, who are 23-30 at home this year. The Braves are a respectable 30-24 on the road. Atlanta is the superior team – by far – and Ronald Acuna Jr.’s return (he was back in the lineup on Monday) only helps matters.

MLB best bet: New York Yankees ML over Chicago White Sox (-140)
The Yankees have taken the first 2 games of this series, 9-5 in the opener and then 3-2 on Tuesday. More of the same should continue with Cam Schlittler toeing the rubber on Wednesday. Schlittler is 10-6 in 2026 with a 2.07 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and an incredible 157-to-25 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 130.1 innings. The right-hander was especially dominant in his most recent appearance last Friday against the Phillies, firing 7.1 innings of shutout baseball while yielding only 3 hits and zero walks to go along with 12 K's.
Chicago is countering with Davis Martin, who has allowed at least 4 earned runs in 2 of his last 3 starts. He did not work more than 5.0 innings in either one of those outings. Martin’s July ERA stands at 6.00 through 4 starts after he pitched to a 5.68 ERA during the month of June. New York is 5-1 in its last 6 overall and has played well on the road all year long (35-23, compared to 26-23 at home).
