Diamondbacks vs Reds Pickswise Expert Predictions
The unsurprising but saddening news broke Friday that Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John Surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Arizona is already underachieving their lofty expectations this year and could wind up selling at the trade deadline unless they can get hot soon. Cincinnati did not have as lofty of expectations entering their season, but their 30-33 record is not far behind Arizona’s 31-31 mark. The Reds will start Nick Martinez in this game and the veteran right-hander will look to build upon what has been a strong start to his season. His last outing was not his best, allowing 5 earned runs to the lethal Cubs lineup, but his previous 8 starts resulted in 3 or fewer earned runs allowed. Arizona has an above-average offense, but Martinez is my preferred starting option in this matchup.
Ryne Nelson will take the ball for Arizona in the bottom of the first, making his 4th start and 14th appearance overall this season. Nelson will be on 6 days rest for this start after throwing just 62 pitches across 15 batters faced against Washington. Still, I don’t know how deep he will work in this game with his spotty workload and the patience that this Reds lineup tends to show. I can tell this game is not my favorite on Saturday’s board, but I do lean towards the Reds winning at current pricing.
