Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Pickswise Expert Predictions
One of the better series of the week comes in the National League West as the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to host the Arizona Diamondbacks in a game between a couple of playoff hopefuls. Both of these teams have been scoring at a good clip, while also allowing plenty of runs in recent games. Arizona was a team that I was pretty high on entering this season, but things have been pretty up and down for the Diamondbacks to this point. Pitching has been the issue for Arizona in 2025, as the Diamondbacks are just 25th in team ERA to this point (4.70), while also sitting at 22nd in hits allowed and WHIP. The struggles should continue for starter Brandon Pfaadt (5.66 xERA, .304 xBA) on Monday, a pitcher whose advanced metrics and batted-ball data suggest that regression is coming compared to his actual results this season. While he did just hold his own against this loaded Dodgers lineup less than 2 weeks ago, I could certainly still see Pfaadt and the inconsistent Arizona bullpen struggling in this one.
As for the hosts, the Dodgers were swept by the lowly Angels at home over the weekend, and Los Angeles’ struggles on the mound played a significant part of why the series went the way that it did. While water should find its level for the Dodgers pitching staff eventually, the struggles should continue on Monday with Landon Knack (5.89 ERA, 53.7% hard-hit rate, .281 expected batting average) taking the mound for Dave Roberts’ team. Knack hasn’t experienced much success this season, and the Diamondbacks lineup (3rd in OPS, 5th in runs scored, 6th in batting average) isn’t one that a struggling pitcher will enjoy facing. All things considered, let’s back the over in this NL West tilt in Los Angeles.
