The Atlanta Braves had a bit of a scare in this weekend’s series when Ronald Acuna Jr. left the game with another leg injury. While it ended up being better than they thought, it still landed him on the injured list — but it didn’t stop the Braves from continuing their winning ways and sweeping the Colorado Rockies. Things didn’t go quite as smoothly for the Seattle Mariners, as they took a tough series sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals — who haven’t exactly been great, themselves, this season.

The Braves will have exciting young pitching prospect JR Ritchie on the mound on Monday night, fresh off 2 starts in which he surrendered just 5 hits and 2 earned runs in each. However, things might not be as rosy they seem for Ritchie — who gave up 6 walks over those 2 outings and largely managed to escape trouble. Despite the 2.92 ERA over the 2 starts, he has a 4.77 xERA. I would like to see that drop before we buy into the rookie too much.

Logan Gilbert has been getting his season back on track after a rough first month in which he allowed 8 earned runs in just 2 March starts. April went much better for the veteran, as he allowed only 9 earned runs over 5 starts. While Ritchie’s advanced numbers don’t paint him in a great light, it has actually been better for Gilbert — whose xERA is nearly 0.50 lower than his actual ERA. If the Mariners were ever going to steal a game off a top team, it could be in this pitching matchup. Let the odds do the talking in this game, as they are begging for us to take the Braves as underdogs. But the Mariners are the play.
