Cleveland Guardians vs Kansas City Royals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/07/26

The Kansas City Royals will look to secure a series win against their division rivals, the Cleveland Guardians, behind one of their most reliable arms, Seth Lugo. Lugo enters at 1-1 with a 2.68 ERA and continues to give Kansas City quality innings nearly every time he takes the mound. For the Guardians, they’re hoping that Slade Cecconi can find his footing this afternoon as he enters at 1-4 with a 6.56 ERA. 

Believe it or not, the Royals have a slight edge offensively in this matchup. In their last 10 games, the Royals are batting .240 and averaging 4.6 runs per game. For the Guardians, they’re hitting .225 and averaging 3.8 runs per game. While the Royals may have a slightly more unstable bullpen in this matchup, I trust Lugo a lot more than Cecconi. Lugo has the ability to eat up innings and limit the damage, while Cecconi has struggled in his last three starts to get batters out. The Guardians may be in first place in the AL Central, but I feel like that’s a fluke. The Royals are playing much better baseball right now, winning seven of their last 10 games, and they have the more dominant pitcher on the mound. They also have a few hitters trending in the right direction, Vinnie Pasquantino is batting .296 and Isaac Collins is hitting .348 in their last seven games, and it’s only a matter of time before Bobby Witt Jr. gets going. At the end of the day,  look for Cecconi to struggle on the mound once again and for Lugo and the Royals to take care of business at home.
