The Colorado Rockies enter this matchup on a six-game losing streak while the Houston Astros look to complete the series sweep. Colorado claimed a surprising sweep the first time these teams met, and the lineups have some familiarity with the starting pitchers. Houston starter Ryan Weiss (7.36 ERA, 2.03 WHIP) got cracked for 6 ER, allowing 10 baserunners in 2.2 innings of work last time he faced this Rockies lineup. Projected Colorado starter Juan Mejia (5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP), on the other hand, has allowed only 2 hits, 1 walk and 0 ER in 2.2 innings against Houston’s bats. 

Making 55 appearances out of the bullpen in 2025, this is set to be Mejia’s first start of his career which might be somewhat daunting, though he proved capable over a larger sample size ending last season with a 2.98 xERA through 61.1 total innings pitched. In relief, Colorado’s bullpen has been much stronger with a 3.40 combined ERA compared to Houston’s 6.12 combined ERA — the 29th ranked figure in the league. After a nightmare season in 2025 it might be tough to back the Rockies for a while, but they’ve proven capable of hanging with the Astros once before this season and I’ll back Colorado to cover the run line.
