The Toronto Blue Jays were able to get their 2025 playoff hero back last week when Trey Yesavage took the mound for his first start, and the rookie didn’t disappoint. However, they’ll have their hands full with the Minnesota Twins’ starter on Sunday, as Joe Ryan has been his usual steady self early in the season. The Twins dominated Kevin Gausman and the Jays in the first of this 4-game series, but it has been all Blue Jays ever since with 7-3 and 11-4 wins.

Yesavage hit the 15-day injured list after Spring Training as he rehabbed from a right shoulder impingement, and after some up-and-down outings in the minors, the Blue Jays recalled him to face the Boston Red Sox last week. The team hoped he’d be back to the same stuff he threw during the last 2 months of the 2025 season, and he delivered. In 5.1 innings, Yesavage showed no signs of rust, allowing just 4 hits and no earned runs.

Ryan sits with a 2-3 record for the Twins, but his last 2 losses have seen him allow 3 earned runs combined. The righty hasn’t been getting too much help from his offense this season, which has to be a bit concerning as they sit at the bottom of the American League Central with a 14-20 record. For as good as Ryan has been, the advanced numbers say he could be even better, with his xERA sitting close to 3.

There has been a lot of offense in this series from both teams, but at the end of a 4-game set and 2 pitchers who could dominate on the mound, take this one to be a sleepy offensive effort.
