2027 NBA Championship Odds: Early Favorites to Win the NBA Finals
A sensational 45-point game from Jalen Brunson clinched the NBA Championship for the New York Knicks on Saturday night. The 53-year title drought is no more as the Knicks took care of the Spurs in a 5-game series, closing out a historic run through the postseason with a 16-3 record. It is early, but our focus already shifts to next season with the 2026 NBA Draft fast approaching. The last 8 seasons have seen 8 different champions, which is a unique stretch in league history in terms of parity. Can the Knicks become the first team since the Kevin Durant-led Warriors in 2018 to win back-to-back championships? Let’s take a deeper dive into some of the favorites for next season, while you can keep tabs on all of our NBA picks and the latest NBA odds for the 2026-27 season.

2026-27 NBA championship contenders
San Antonio Spurs: +250
Despite losing the 2026 NBA Finals in 5 games, the Spurs have to be pleased with how this season went. A 60+ win regular season and a deep postseason run in Victor Wembanyama’s first go at the Playoffs is something not many people saw coming at the start of the 2025-26 season. Along the way, the Spurs beat the defending champs OKC Thunder in a matchup that undoubtedly feature ample battles down the road in the Western Conference. The question is: what do the Spurs do this offseason to improve their roster? I do not anticipate any significant changes. De’Aaron Fox didn’t have the best of series in the Finals with his Game 4 blunder, but trading his massive contract won’t be the easiest task if the Spurs decide to shake things up. Experience was all this team needed moving forward, I expect another high finish in the Western Conference next season.
Oklahoma City Thunder: +250
Health is pretty much what cost the Oklahoma City Thunder this season. Their 2nd-best player in Jalen Williams just could never get it going due to multiple hamstring injuries. His absence wasn’t an issue during the regular season as the Thunder relied on their depth to compensate, but it caught up to them in the series against San Antonio. General Manager Sam Presti has built one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, it would be foolish to disrupt what the Thunder have going on right now. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander captured his 2nd consecutive regular season MVP award; he will be out to redeem himself after a sub-par series from an individual standpoint in the Conference Finals. All in all, the Thunder shouldn’t be making any drastic changes, if they can rest up and get healthy this offseason, I see no reason why we shouldn’t expect to see them back in the Conference Finals for a 3rd year in a row.

Boston Celtics: +550
One of the biggest disappointments in the Playoffs this year was the Boston Celtics, who came up short in Round 1 despite going up 3-1 on the Philadelphia 76ers. Their inability to close out a limited 76ers team raised a lot of questions, and we could be seeing some drastic changes made to the outlook of this team ahead of next season. Rumor has it the Celtics are one of the frontrunners in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes; trading for him could finally signal the end of the Tatum and Brown partnership. With so much uncertainty moving forward, I am actually surprised their odds are so short. General manager Brad Stevens will have a busy summer ahead.
New York Knicks: +700
The Knicks have the 4th-shortest odds to win and repeat as champions. It’ll take some time for the dust to settle following their historic run in the postseason in which they won 15 of their last 16 games, but it actually makes sense that 3 other teams are ahead of the Knicks on this list. No team has repeated since the 2017 and 2018 Warriors, and on top of that the last 8 NBA champions have not been among the preseason favorites. Winning the whole thing certainly takes off a massive burden off the back of this team, so I’m curious to see how seriously they take the regular season next year. This team isn’t really built to win 60+ games; they finished only 3rd with a 53-29 record this year. A lot will depend on how deep they can go in their title-defending quest, but one thing is certain – in order to be competitive they’ll have to freshen up the roster a bit after playing deep into June.
Indiana Pacers & Denver Nuggets: +2800
The next spot on the odds board is owned by the Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets, who are tied at +2800 odds. Although their seasons went in 2 completely different directions, these teams have something in common, as injuries played a massive part in the way things played out this year. Indiana should get their point guard and best player Tyrese Haliburton back after he sat out the entire year recovering from an Achilles injury. Finishing the year at just 19-63 after making it to the NBA Finals the season prior will be a motivating factor in itself for the Pacers to bounce back. On the other hand, the Nuggets have been stagnant for years now. Once again, they finished 3rd in the West, but the postseason revealed all the limitations they have as they crashed out in Round 1 against Minnesota. After getting bounced by the T’Wolves, team president Josh Kroenke publicly stated that everyone but Nikola Jokic is on the table. It promises to be an interesting summer in the Mile High City.
