NBA Cup action resumes this Friday in the NBA and we are treated to another huge showdown in the Eastern Conference as the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers go at it. The Cavs are hoping to bounce back following two defeats against the Thunder, while the Sixers are aiming to improve on their impressive 8-1 start to the year. Tip-off is set for 7.30 pm ET on Prime Video!

You have to give credit where credit is due. The 76ers are off to an impressive 8-1 start with 4 wins in as many games on the road. Following the impressive win over Detroit, the win streak currently stands at 5 in a row. They’ll get tested for sure by the hungry Cavaliers who are hoping to redeem themselves after a pair of tough losses in a home and home match-up vs Oklahoma City. All four Philadelphia’s wins were by 6 points or less, so it’s not like they are blowing out opponents.
There certainly won’t be a lack of motivation on the Cavs’ part here, given they’re playing their first NBA Cup home game of the season. They also have an obvious edge in three-point shooting and efficiency, making 15.6 threes per game compared to Philly’s 11.4 per game. As it’s always the case with Philly, we have to be extra cautious as we simply don’t know if Joel Embiid will play here. If he’s unable to go, the Cavs front court will eat up all the rebounds. As things stand they have an edge in that department as well, averaging 5.3 rebs per game more. I’m hoping the Cavaliers snap out of it and deliver a performance to remember here.

LeBron James Over 6.5 Assists (-130)
LeBron James reinventing himself on the fly in season number 24 is one of the coolest stories of the season so far. The soon-to-be 42-year-old has 10 more assists to his name than baskets made in the 7 games played so far, it goes without saying that this is the first time this has happened in his career. As long as the team is winning I do not anticipate James switching things up, he is doing just fine in a play making role on this loaded Sixers roster.
Getting to 7 assists shouldn’t be too big of an ask here, he’s done it in 4 consecutive games while averaging 7 assists per game for the season. Despite his modest scoring outputs to start the year, he still attracts a lot of attention which frees up space for the likes of Maxey, Brown or Embiid to score. Cleveland ranks 12th for assists allowed to opposing PFs this season, with LeBron clearing this line 13 times in 20 games (65% hit rate), you have to like his chances of doing so on Friday as well.
James Harden 2+ Made Threes (-235)
Similarly to LeBron, Harden has also slowed down a fair bit on offense as he no longer possesses the first step he once had. That has made him focus more on maitaining a consistent three-point shot, something that he’s been able to do for most of his career. The numbers might be down to start the year, however slowly but surely he’s getting them back up.
The Beard has knocked down 3 threes in 4 consecutive games and in 5 of his last 6. Only once in 8 games he has failed to make a pair, delivering a hit rate of 87.5%. Cleveland’s three-point shooting is also on the raise in their last 3 games, with them knocking down almost 40% of attempts during that stretch. They’ll need every point they can get from their point guard to get a result here, Harden has not disappointed in head-to-head meetings averaging 2.2 threes made in the last 10 such games.
