Best Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers touchdown scorer bets: Jamaal Williams makes Lions history

Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams (30) celebrates after scoring a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in the first quarter at Ford Field.

This matchup was flexed to the Sunday Night Football window, and it’s no surprise why. Both teams are fighting to extend their seasons, as a win would put the Green Bay Packers into the playoffs and it could be the same for the Detroit Lions if the Seahawks lose to the Rams earlier on Sunday. With players chasing contract incentives, franchise records and more, this matchup is set to impress. With kickoff set for 8:20 pm ET on NBC, it’s time to take a look at the best touchdown scorer bets for Sunday Night Football.

Detroit Lions touchdown scorer best bet: Jamaal Williams, RB (-130)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing

Jamaal Williams is chasing history on Sunday Night Football, and it comes against his former team. After the 2020-21 season, Green Bay decided to invest in Aaron Jones instead of Williams, which led to him signing in Detroit, where he has had a career season. He leads the NFL with 15 touchdowns and is now just 1 score away from tying the Lions franchise record of most touchdowns in a season which is currently held by Barry Sanders. Also, Williams is 6 rushing yards away from a $250,000 bonus.

Since he is loved in the Lions locker room, I would not be surprised to see Detroit give Williams several opportunities to accomplish both. Add in the fact that Williams could tie the franchise record and make a quarter of a million dollars against the team that didn’t want him back, and you have the NFL’s leading scorer with a lot of motivation to score.

Green Bay Packers touchdown scorer best bet: AJ Dillon, RB (+105)

Available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing

This game might feature the biggest differences in prices among players to score. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Aaron Jones is -110 to score, and AJ Dillon is +105. Yet at DraftKings Sportsbook, both Green Bay running backs are priced at -200 to score! A massive price difference, so I’ll take Dillon to score at plus odds, which I believe is excellent value. Dillon had scored once in the first 11 weeks of the season as he was the backup to Jones. However, Dillon has seen a major increase in his usage near the end zone in the second half of the season. He’s scored in 5 consecutive games and has at least 11 carries in 4 straight weeks.

Dillon will also get the opportunity to exploit Detroit’s biggest weakness -their running defense. The Lions allow the 4th-most rushing yards per game, but when they’re away, they fall to the 2nd-most. In their last few weeks, the Lions have allowed 132 rushing yards to Justin Fields, 165 yards to D’Onta Foreman and 125 yards to Chuba Hubbard. Dillon and Jones should be running wild on Sunday night, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see both running backs score. His consistency offers value, so at plus odds, back Dillon the find the end zone for the 6th straight week.

Anytime Touchdown Scorer FAQs

What does “anytime touchdown scorer” mean?

Anytime touchdown scorer is a popular player prop bet that NFL bettors can wager on throughout the season. But what is it, and how do you win?

As the name suggests, placing a wager on the anytime touchdown scorer market is when you tip a particular player to score a touchdown during a game. This can be a rushing or receiving touchdown for an offensive player, or you can wager on a team’s defense/special teams to score a touchdown by interception return and fumble return or kickoff and punt returns.

If your player or defense scores a touchdown, you win! The odds will differ from player-to-player depending on the sportsbooks’ calculated probability of that player scoring.

Does anytime touchdown scorer include passing touchdowns?

Not for a quarterback, no. A player must get into the endzone, himself, in order to qualify as an anytime touchdown scorer. If a quarterback throws a touchdown pass, only the player who caught it counts as the scorer. If Joe Burrow throws a touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase, wagers placed on Evans as an anytime touchdown scorer will cash. However, those placed on Rodgers as an anytime touchdown scorer will not (unless he also runs for a TD). See below for more on what the anytime touchdown scorer market means for quarterbacks.

What does anytime touchdown scorer mean for a QB?

For a wager on a QB to be an anytime touchdown scorer to cash, he must follow the same rules as a running back, tight end, or receiver. He must get into the end zone himself, either as a runner or a pass-catcher.

In the age of the mobile quarterback, QBs such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray are often seen rushing in for a touchdown on any given Sunday. And don’t forget the occasional Philly Special, either. QBs can sometimes catch passes for TDs, too.
