The NFL flexed the Sunday Night Football game this weekend to be the Detroit Lions (+4.5) vs Green Bay Packers. This game will have heavy playoff implications IF the LA Rams can beat the Seahawks earlier that day. If not, well…then I would expect the Lions to still come out looking to play spoiler, but the motivation will not the same. It’s tough to handicap from a player prop perspective knowing a team could be dead in the water just before kickoff. Nonetheless, there are angles to be found in every game.

Jared Goff Under 250.5 passing yards (-125)

Line available on Caesars Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a line with so much disparity across multiple books. I’ve seen this as low as 243.5 and since I’m going under, I found 250.5 the highest, but there is every in between. Goff is heading into Lambeau in what could be a playoff atmosphere. The last time he was in Lambeau for the playoffs? 32-18 loss 21 of 27 for 174 yards. The Packers’ pass defense is top 10 in the league and do a fantastic job of limiting teams top two WRs. The Lions will need to rely heavily on Jamaal Williams ground game to prevent the game from getting away from Goff who struggles in sub zero temperatures. It should be close to 20 degrees at kickoff Sunday night. For his career in the month of January, he averages 204.3 yards per game. In 2 road playoff games in January, Goff averaged 164.5 yards per game. This scenario is not something Goff has excelled in historically and if this game turns out to be meaningless before kickoff, it will deflate the entire team. 1U.

Allen Lazard Over 49.5 receiving yards (-114)

Line available on Caesars Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Lazard has hit this line in 2 straight games against the Lions and 3 of the last 4 on the season. The Packers have made a strong playoff push, winning 4 straight games to cap off the season and Lazard has been an integral part. This is a common trend for Rodgers to target guys he trusts when it matters. Lazard averages 55.8 ypg in the month of January for his career and 18.8 Y/R in the postseason. For the sake of this analysis, I’m treating this game like a playoff game for the Packers: win and you’re in. 1U.
