Alex Ovechkin over 0.5 goals (-111)
Both these teams are playing in the tail end of a back-to-back tonight, and there should be a lot of open ice chances that a player like Ovechkin can take advantage of. Despite an extremely slow game yesterday for the Capitals, Ovechkin still managed to score an empty-net goal with 11 seconds remaining. No matter if he’s scoring on the powerplay or into an empty net, head coach Peter Laviolette gives Ovechkin plenty of chances to get on the scoreboard. Ovechkin is just one goal away from the league lead, so he has some added motivation to continue scoring tonight. The greatest goalscorer to ever play the game is having the best start to a season in his entire career. He’s been playing at a different level this year and a goal tonight could go a long way.
He has 25 goals in 38 games this season. He’s averaging nearly five minutes of powerplay time per game. Tonight’s slate provides little to no value, but Ovechkin has been automatic when it comes to scoring goals. Ovechkin has the motivation to catch Gretzky and win the Rocket Richard this year, plus with some fatigue on the ice tonight, there could be plenty of chances. Take Ovechkin to record a goal this afternoon.
