2021 Sugar Bowl Predictions, Picks, Teams, and Where to Watch: Clemson Tigers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
2021 Sugar Bowl Predictions, Picks, and Best Bets
The 2020 Sugar Bowl takes place on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, as the Clemson Tigers take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It will be the first time Clemson has contested the Sugar Bowl since 2017 (third time overall), and the first time Ohio State has participated in the Sugar Bowl since 2014 (sixth time overall). Clemson’s sole defeat this season came when star quarterback Trevor Lawrence was sidelined, and they stand a good chance of progressing to the National Championship game at Ohio State’s expense. The below sections will answer any and all questions you might have about the 2021 Sugar Bowl. From who is playing in the Sugar Bowl, to where it is, to when and why, we’ve got you covered.
When is the 2021 Sugar Bowl?
The 2020 Sugar Bowl takes place this Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and it will be the 87th edition of the famous New Year’s Six bowl game.
Where is the Sugar Bowl played?
The Sugar Bowl will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The stadium is home to NFL franchise the New Orleans Saints, who played their last regular-season game there on Christmas Day, when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings.
From 1934-74 the Sugar Bowl was played at Tulane Stadium. Only once since that time has the game not been played in the Superdome (at the end of the 2005 season because of Hurricane Katrina).
Who Plays in the Sugar Bowl in 2021?
The 2021 Sugar Bowl will be contested between the Clemson Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes. Clemson is ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Ohio State is ranked No. 3.
The teams were chosen by the College Football Playoff selection committee, and oddsmakers currently have the Tigers as -7.5 favorites.
Clemson is currently 10-1 after hammering fellow College Football Playoff participant Notre Dame 34-10 in the ACC Championship. That avenged a 47-40 double-overtime loss to the Fighting Irish during the regular season. Ohio State is 6-0 after having three regular-season games cancelled because of coronavirus issues. The Buckeyes are coming off a 22-10 victory over Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship.
What Channel is the 2021 Sugar Bowl on?
This year’s Sugar Bowl will be broadcast live on ESPN. The game takes place on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 and kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
Where can I Stream the 2021 Sugar Bowl?
You can stream the Sugar Bowl live on the ESPN app. Alternatively, you can also watch the game live on YouTube TV, Hulu, FuboTV, Sling TV, or on AT&T TV Now.
Who won the 2020 Sugar Bowl?
Last year, the 2019 Sugar Bowl was won by the Georgia Bulldogs, who defeated the Baylor Bears 26-14. It was not part of the College Football Playoff last year.
The game took place on Jan. 1, 2020 and was attended by 55,211 people.
Who is Favorite to Win the Sugar Bowl 2021?
The current favorites to win the 2021 Sugar Bowl are the Clemson Tigers, who are -7.5 favorites to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes. That can be attributed to the fact that Clemson is undefeated this season when Trevor Lawrence is under center (he was out when the Tigers lost to Notre Dame). Also, the jury is still out on the Buckeyes given that they have played only six games and their best wins have come against Northwestern and Indiana.
Ohio State was hardly convincing against either Northwestern or Indiana, whereas Clemson has won its last three games by 35, 35, and 24 points. Giving 7.5 points may not be too many for Lawrence and company.
