Horse Racing picks for Saratoga race track on Friday, August 5: Make Golden Pal your best friend

John Velazquez (8) aboard Audible trained by Todd Pletcher

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Friday, including at Saratoga race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time and yesterday we gave 3 winners from 3 picks at Saratoga, taking us to a profit of +295.16 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Saratoga.

4:29 pm ET Saratoga (Race 7) – Direct Order 3/1 (2-star play)

Race 7 at Saratoga is a $42,000 claiming event over a mile on the dirt and I like the chances of the 6-year-old in stall 6, Direct Order, who is a 5-time winner in this grade and comes into this after a good effort at Belmont Park.

This experienced campaigner knows what it takes to win and if he runs close to that most recent run at Belmont, he should be right there at the finish.

5:05 pm ET Saratoga (Race 8) – Stolen Base 8/1 (1-star play)

The $200,000 Grade 2 Hall Of Fame Stakes for 3-year-olds over a mile on the turf is Race 8 on the card at Saratoga and Michael Maker has never won this race but he might be able to do so today with course winner Stolen Base.

He was a determined winner in this grade at Churchill Downs a couple of starts back and looks to have a perfect spot in stall 5 from which he can stalk the pace and pounce turning in under Flavien Prat.

5:39 pm ET Saratoga (Race 9) – Golden Pal 1/2 (3-star play)

A field of 7 is set to go to post for the $300,000 Grade 3 Troy Stakes at Saratoga, which is Race 9 on the card, and they are all up against it to beat 2-time Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal, who should make all of the running.

Wesley Ward’s trailblazer is pretty much unbeatable given these conditions of an extended 5 furlongs on the turf and, with 2 course wins already, he should make that 3 today.

6:13 pm ET Saratoga (Race 10) – Regal Rebel 6/1 (1-star play)

Rob Atras’s Regal Rebel has been contesting valuable maiden special weights thus far and although she has yet to win she hasn’t been disgraced and she can make her presence felt in this $42,000 maiden claimer, which is the 10th and final race on the card at Saratoga.

Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the ride on this filly who can have a major say if she runs to the standard she showed when finishing 5th at Aqueduct recently.
