Here are our best bets for today’s action at Saratoga.
4:29 pm Saratoga (Race 7) – U Glow Girl 5/2 (2-star play)
A field of eight two-year-old fillies are set to go to post for Race 7 at Saratoga which is a $83,000 Maiden Special Weight over six furlongs on the dirt in which the horses with experience will benefit greatly. So with that in mind, the selection is Brad Cox’s U Glow Girl.
She was well fancied on debut when finishing a good third over an extended five furlongs at this course last month, so she can put that experience to good use here.
5:05 pm Saratoga (Race 8) – Silken Dollar 3/1 (2-star play)
Race 8 at Saratoga is a $95,000 Allowance for the female division over a mile on the dirt in which U Guys Are No Fun is likely to prove tough to beat, but it’s the filly drawn next to her in stall two, Silken Dollar, who can put it down to the likely favourite.
Luis Saez’s mount broke her maiden in a decent Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park back in May and, although she hasn’t hit the frame in two starts since, I very much doubt we have seen the best of her yet and she is the value play.
5:39 pm Saratoga (Race 9) – Shinsun 8/1 (1-star play)
The penultimate contest at Saratoga is the hotly contested $150,000 New York Stallion Series Stakes for three-year-olds over a mile on the turf and I like the chances of Barclay Tagg’s Shinsun who could improve dramatically from a third in a Starter Allowance last time.
That race was here at Saratoga, and he finished with loads left in the tank as a wide trip didn’t help and he caught the eye when staying on well late so a bold bid could be on the cards on his first start in stakes company.
6:13 pm Saratoga (Race 10) – Aziza 4/1 (2-star play)
Michelle Hemingway’s Aziza is dropping into Claiming company for the first time in the finale at Saratoga and if this mare runs close to her best form, then she can have a major say under Jose Ortiz.
Her victory two starts back was over this trip of a mile and a sixteenth, and if she runs close to her fourth in an Allowance at Tampa Bay a few months ago, then she will be in the shake up.
