3:30 pm Santa Anita (Race 1) – Conquistar 6/5 (2-star play)
Purchased for $825,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sales back in 2021 the daughter of Quality Road failed to make the track at two. Has delivered a string of impressive works in recent weeks, most recently when delivering a 35.20 3-furlong work here at the start of the month. The filly represents a top trainer in Bob Baffert and while drawn wides of all here looks capable of breaking her maiden at the first time of asking.
5:04 pm Santa Anita (Race 4) – Loyal To A Fault 6/5 (2-star play)
Showed ability when trained by Doug O’Neill last year finishing runner-up in 3 of his 4 starts on turf for the handler, including when beaten two-and-a-quarter-lengths over a mile at Del Mar in November. Below that form twice since including in her return for O’Neill when fading over a mile on a good turf track in a stakes contest here last month. Return to maiden company is a positive and she is taken to score down in trip.
6:38 pm Santa Anita (Race 7) – Hopkins 5/2 (2-star play)
Showed that he can deliver big speed figures when taking a 6-furlong allowance optional claiming contest at Del Mar 3 starts back. While below par in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes here subsequently that effort came over a mile-and-one-sixteenth. Returned to form with a head defeat when runner-up in a 6-furlong allowance optional claimer here last month and with further improvement possible is taken to go one better for jockey Juan J. Hernandez stepping up in grade.
