As the dust settles on another loaded weekend of baseball, we enter the final week of August. There are just over 30 games left for teams to make a final push for the playoffs. This is a great time on the sports calendar and the MLB’s pennant races are a major reason. This should be a great final month of baseball as division races and wild cards come to a head. Mondays do not always have a big slate, but tonight all but 2 teams are suited up for a 14-game slate.

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+140) vs Los Angeles Angels

After winning the NL pennant last season, the Phillies had an underwhelming start to the season. But now they appear to be fully back. All due respect to NL East teams, no one was going to catch the Braves in the division anyway. The next option to get into the playoffs then became the wild card, which the Phillies lead in the NL by 3.5 games. They are 5-1 in their last 6 games and 4-1 in their last 5 at home. Philadelphia is a hot hand right now.

The Phillies gets a great opportunity to pad their wild-card lead this week when they host the Angels, whose struggles have been well documented. They are 7-17 in August, had Mike Trout back from injury for just a single game before going back on the IL, and have a banged-up Shohei Ohtani who unfortunately suffered a UCL tear last week. The Angels are an easy fade tonight.

Baltimore Orioles -1.5 & game total over 9.5 (+270) vs Chicago White Sox

The Orioles are clinging to a 2-game division lead and get a soft matchup this week to try to create a little bit more separation. Baltimore is playing well to the tune of a 4-1 record in their last 5 games as well as a 5-2 record in their last 7 at home. The White Sox are 5-10 in their last 15 games and are 4-10 in their last 14 on the road. Baltimore will come out looking to run up the score and keep pace in the division,

The over has been trending for the White Sox lately as the total has gone over in 7 of their last 10 games. Their low-ranked run-prevention always gives a high total a good chance, let alone against a solid lineup like Baltimore. But Chicago’s offense has been decently productive lately as the White Sox have scored 5 runs in 4 of their last 5 games. The over should compliment a lopsided Orioles win.

Atlanta Braves win (-238) vs Colorado Rockies

Granted, taking the Braves to beat the Rockies outright is not exactly going out on a limb. But it is a nice addition to this parlay to round out mega +1161 odds. The Braves have been in cruise control and continue to be a favorite regardless of opponent. Atlanta is 17-8 in August, they are 4-1 in their last 5 games, and they have won the last 6 consecutive head-to-head matchups against Colorado.

The Rockies have had a season to forget. This month cannot end quick enough for them. They have lost 6 of their last 7 games and present a favorable matchup to just about any team in baseball. The Braves are certainly no exception to that rule. At 49-81, the Rockies are the worst team in the NL. The pitching matchup favors the Braves as well. There’s no need to overthink this one as part of a huge parlay.
