Best MLB player prop for Monday's slate: Ace behavior from Rodon

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (16) throws against the Oakland Athletics during the fifth inning at Oracle Park.

Happy Monday! We have a long week of baseball ahead of us and we have a solid slate of 11 MLB games today, but there’s one player prop that I really like. Before that, be sure to check out our full game previews for tonight’s matchups.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Carlos Rodon (SF) over 6.5 strikeouts (-116)

Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Carlos Rodon had a career-high 34.6% strikeout rate in 2021 and he’s on track to surpass that number this season. Through 5 starts, the lefty has a 36.9% strikeout rate and has recorded at least 8 strikeouts in 4 of his 5 outings. The lefty has been incredible to watch this season as his 1.98 xERA and .177 xBA illustrate his success as being no fluke. And although Oracle Park has not been his home for that long, his strikeout rate at home is far higher than when Rodon is on the road. He has a 48.8 strikeout rate at home compared to a 29.4 strikeout rate on the road.

The Rockies lineup has faced Rodon for a combined 38 plate appearances and have a 31.6% strikeout rate. Kris Bryant is 0-for-6 with 3 strikeouts in his short time against Rodon and the top four in the Rockies order have struggled heavily in their careers against the San Francisco ace. And as expected, the Rockies team batting average is drastically lower when not playing in Colorado. Their average runs per game drops from 5.75 to 2.75 when playing at home compared to being on the road.

Rodon has been incredible at home this season, so back the lefty to record at least 7 strikeouts on Monday night.
