With plenty of MLB games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will take only about 15 minutes. I’m on a 6-1-1 run with my YRFI/NRFI plays, so let’s keep the momentum going! Before we dive in, don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for every game today. There are 2 YRFI/NRFI bets I like on Thursday, so let’s get right into it.

Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Mets: NRFI (-125)

For our first pick on Thursday’s slate, we’re going with the NRFI in a matchup between the Brewers and Mets at Citi Field. Since returning from his suspension, Max Scherzer has had 6 terrific starts, along with a trio of poor outings. It just so happens that his last start at home, where he surrendered 6 runs in 3.1 innings pitched, was his worst of the season. Don’t expect a repeat of that performance from Scherzer, especially against a middling Brewers lineup on the other side. It’s not like the Mets’ offense has been performing at a high level, as New York ranks 21st in SLG and 20th in OPS, a far cry from what preseason expectations were for this Mets lineup. Adrian Houser has surrendered just 1 run in his last 2 road outings, and I expect a similar effort from him here.

Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Angels: YRFI (-110)

For our second pick on Thursday’s card, we’re going with the YRFI in this AL showdown between the White Sox and Angels. We’ve got a good recipe for the YRFI given that both pitchers are prone to giving up runs in the early going. On one side, Lance Lynn will get the ball for the White Sox, and while he’s been better of late, Lynn has still been wildly inconsistent this season. The White Sox starter still holds an ERA of 6.40 on the season while surrendering 23 runs over his last 5 outings. It helps that Shohei Ohtani is 10-of-21 lifetime against Lynn with 3 home runs. As for the hosts, Patrick Sandoval holds an xERA of 4.59 and is in the bottom 15 percentile of all starters in xBA and strikeout percentage. I have no problem backing an early run to be scored on Thursday.
