Tuesday is always a big day in Major League Baseball, with every team in action either beginning a new series or in the second game of a set. This evening is no exception, with 17 games on the docket – including a doubleheader featuring the Phillies and White Sox plus a 10:10 pm ET showdown on TBS between the Mets and Dodgers.

The YRFI/NRFI market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours (or maybe a lot less now that games are not as long on average!) to see if your bet hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning. Here are my best YRFI/NRFI bets for Tuesday, and also be sure to check out all of our MLB picks for all 17 games today.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Houston Astros: YRFI (-136)

Chris Bassitt is off to a dreadful start with his new team and now Toronto’s veteran right-hander has to face Houston’s dangerous lineup. Bassitt is 1-2 with a 7.63 ERA through 3 starts, during which he has only 4 more strikeouts (12) than walks (8). In 2 road appearances this season he has given up a laughable 6 first-inning runs (2 to the Angels and 4 to the Cardinals). Moreover, Alex Bregman is 7-for-19 with 2 doubles and a homer in his career against Bassitt.

The Astros are countering with fellow right-hander Jose Urquidy. Although Urquidy has pitched well so far this year, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 5-for-12 lifetime against him with 2 dingers. Bo Bichette has also gone deep against him. At least 1 of these teams should put a run on the board in the opening frame… and maybe both.

Chicago Cubs vs Oakland Athletics: NRFI (-135)

Marcus Stroman is taking the mound on Tuesday. That’s great news for the Cubs; it’s also great news for NRFI bettors. Stroman has been awesome so far in his first season with Chicago, compiling a 1.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 3 starts. Unsurprisingly, he has not yet surrendered a run in the first inning. In 2 of his 3 outings he has not allowed a run at all. Ken Waldichuk will be throwing for Oakland. That is far more alarming for NRFI backers, but he did not give up a first-inning run in any of his first 3 appearances.

Neither lineup is anything special and neither one has much experience facing the opposing pitcher. I think both Stroman and Waldichuk will have the advantage on Tuesday, if not all night then at least the first time through the order.
