The Major League Baseball week continues with a full 15-game slate on Tuesday. It is headlined by a TBS showdown between Minnesota and Atlanta at 7:20 pm ET, and we also have Cincinnati vs Baltimore, Miami vs Boston and Tampa Bay vs Arizona. All in all, there are plenty of options with which to come up with some YRFI/NRFI plays.

This market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours (or maybe a lot less now that games are not as long on average!) to see if your wager hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning.

Here are my best YRFI/NRFI bets for Tuesday, and also be sure to check out all of our MLB picks.

Miami Marlins vs Boston Red Sox: NRFI (-106)

Garrett Whitlock will get this game started with Boston in the field and I like his chances to post a zero in the opening frame. In fact, that is exactly what Whitlock has done in 4 consecutive outings and in 6 of his last 7. The right-hander has been stellar all round dating back to late May, a stretch that has seen him lower his ERA from 6.19 to 4.50. In his last 5 starts, Whitlock has allowed 12 earned runs in 30.0 innings.

Inter-league matchups are generally intriguing for the NRFI because hitters don’t have much familiarity with pitchers. No one on Miami has ever done anything of note against Whitlock and the same can be said of Boston’s bats against Sandy Alcantara. Only Justin Turner and Bobby Dalbec have ever had a base knock off the Marlins’ righty and they are a combined 3-for-12. Alcantara has not been good at all this season, but he has pitched a clean first inning in 4 of his past 5 appearances.

Minnesota Twins vs Atlanta Braves: NRFI (-104)

Betting against Atlanta’s lineup to cross the plate in the first innings – or any inning – is never the safest play. Ronald Acuna Jr. batting leadoff represents instant danger, but at least Minnesota has a right-hander toeing the rubber in Joe Ryan, who is a good right-hander, too. Ryan is 8-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 0.91 WHIP to go along with 100 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 93.2 innings of work. He is coming off a complete-game shutout of Boston last Thursday which extended Ryan’s NRFI streak to 8.

The Braves are countering with Bryce Elder, who has been one of the most surprising pitchers in baseball – and one of the best – this year. Elder is 5-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. In his last 2 appearances, Elder has worked 13.0 innings while surrendering just a single run. The 24-year-old has made a whopping 11 consecutive starts without giving up a run in the first inning. Also, this is another inter-league matchup with little to no familiarity. Nobody on the Twins has ever faced Elder and no hitter on the Braves has ever had a hit off Ryan.
