With plenty of MLB games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will take only about 15 minutes. I’m on a 21-6 run with my YRFI/NRFI plays, so let’s keep this momentum going! But before we dive in, don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for every game today.

Tampa Bay Rays vs New York Yankees: NRFI (-130)

For my first pick on Thursday’s slate, I’m taking the NRFI in this AL East clash between the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees. This is a pretty simple handicap, as both starters should hold considerable advantages over the opposing hitters. We all know how good Shane McClanahan has been for most of the season, and he should jump at the chance to bounce back from a pair of shaky starts against this awful Yankees lineup. New York is 27th in OBP and 23rd in OPS this season, as the Yankees offense has woefully underperformed against preseason expectations. I wouldn’t expect that to change on Wednesday, just like I wouldn’t expect Gerrit Cole to get off to a slow start.

New York’s ace has been a lone bright spot this season and he’s been outstanding coming out of the all-star break, tossing a combined 19.1 innings of 3-run ball while striking out 26 in the process. Cole is coming off 7 scoreless innings against the Orioles in his last outing, so expect him to pick up right where he left off in front of the home crowd. Even factoring in the juice, I’ll take the NRFI in this one.

Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners: NRFI (-115)

For my second pick on Wednesday’s card, I’m going with the NRFI in this tie between the Red Sox and Mariners. Fading the Mariners’ anemic offense has been a profitable endeavor for me throughout the summer, and I’m expecting another slow start from Seattle on Wednesday against Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford. Crawford has been rock solid for Boston since the start of July, as he’s surrendered just 10 runs over his last 5 outings, including 6 scoreless innings against the Cubs and strong starts against the Giants and Blue Jays.

The Mariners are playing well over the last few weeks, putting themselves in position to think about a second Wild Card slot. It all starts with their starting pitching, and that’s where Logan Gilbert comes in. The right-hander has been excellent over his last 5 outings and his xERA still suggests room for some positive regression. I’ll gladly back the NRFI in Seattle.
