I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Due to last night’s postponement, Game 3 will be played tonight instead. The weather looks to have cleared up, so all should be set for tonight. It will still be the first game in Philadelphia after the Astros and Phillies split the first 2 games in Houston. Not only is the series evened up, but tonight is also a rather evenly priced matchup. That can make it more difficult to predict; however, we have an alternative way to play this matchup. By predicting if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not, we can profit in about 15 minutes. If that sounds like a good deal to you, then we’ve got you covered. Along with this early play, be sure to check out our MLB analysis for all of the upcoming World Series action.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bet for today’s 2022 World Series Game 3.

Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies: YRFI (-105)

The first games of this series have been split in terms of a run being scored in the 1st inning or not. Game 1 had the battle of aces on the mound, and no run was scored. Game 2, on the other hand, saw the Astros light up Phillies starter Zack Wheeler for 3 runs in the 1st inning. We’re predicting a happy medium between the 2, but with at least 1 run being scored in the 1st frame. The extra rest day is going to allow both teams to get their aces back on the mound before the series ends, but it won’t be tonight. We’ve already seen the Astros take advantage of Wheeler, and tonight the Phillies will be starting Ranger Suarez.

Not only is he not the caliber of Aaron Nola or even Wheeler, but he also has a terrible matchup. Houston has smashed left-handed pitching, particularly in this last month of the season. Their late surge had them finish the regular season with the 2nd-best OPS against lefties. Part of that success came against Suarez less than a month ago. The Astros smashed the Phillies lefty to the tune of 5 runs in the 1st inning in what was ultimately a 10-0 win. That’s exactly the type of history we want to see for this play.

If that wasn’t enough, Houston starter Lance McCullers Jr. faced the Phillies the day before that game. He too allowed a 1st inning run by way of a Kyle Schwarber leadoff home run. He had the most homers in the NL with 46 this season, so he’s more than capable of doing that again.
