The stage is set in Paris for the NBA Europe Game 2024 between the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. It promises to be a spectacular game for our friends over in Europe, and NBA TV will have coverage starting at 2:00 pm ET. Playing a game on a different continent is always a unique experience, so I expect the 2 teams to showcase the NBA product in its purest form — with a ton of offense. The oddsmakers have set a pretty modest projected total of just 225 points, so why not take advantage of that? The Nets and Cavs surpassed that number in the first meeting of the season, plus 7 of the last 10 games head-to-head have cashed on the over with an average of 226.1 points per game scored.
We have seen quite the transformation of the Cavaliers’ offense in their last 10 games. They have gone up from being one of the slowest teams in the NBA to a top-6 team in offensive efficiency. Ball movement has been a huge part of that; they own the highest AST% during that stretch. They should be able to fill it up against this suspect Nets defense, which has allowed an average of 119.4 points per game in the last 5 outings. I think the 2 teams will put on a show offensively, so let’s open our SGP by backing the points.
Max Strus, SG, CLE, Over 2.5 made 3s (-125)
Strus has remained consistent from the 3-point line, averaging 2.8 makes for the past 2 months or so. His efficiency has gone up since the turn of the new year, though; he’s at 44% of makes from downtown compared to just 29.4% in the month of December. Just 2 games ago he exploded for 6 triples against the Washington Wizards and he has attempted at least 10 threes in 4 of the last 10 games. If he gets close to that in today’s contest, there is no doubt he will be able to clear this line. He just loves playing the Nets for some reason. In the last 7 meetings he is making an average of 4 long-distance shots per game against them on over 47% efficiency. Only twice during that stretch he failed to clear this line, so I’m confident he can get the job done today in Paris.
Jarrett Allen, C, CLE, Over 3.5 assists (+134)
Jarrett Allen has looked like an all-star over his last 10 games, posting averages of 18.8 points, 13.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists. The absence of Darius Garland has forced the Cavs to put the ball into the hands of their big men, who are finding open shooters. Because of that, Allen has cleared this line 5 times in his last 7 games. His former team in Brooklyn isn’t exactly known for its ball stopping this season – opponents are averaging 26.2 assists per game against the Nets. As such, I think the Cavs will use their big man quite a lot on Thursday. Cleveland is one of the deepest teams in the NBA with players like Strus, Georges Niang, Caris LeVert and Sam Merrill all capable of having big scoring nights. Donovan Mitchell can’t get all the assists, so let’s go with Allen to dish out at least 4 of them at a really tasty price of +134.
