The Chargers travel north to the bay area to take on the 49ers on Sunday Night Football. Currently, the 49ers sit as 7.5 favorites, primarily due to the number of injuries Los Angeles is still dealing with. WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams will miss another game, leaving Josh Palmer and TE Gerald Everett as the main weapons for Justin Herbert. The 49ers should have Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell returning this week. Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo are familiar with Brandon Staley’s defense from his time as the LA Rams defensive coordinator. Let’s see if history will help us find an angle.

Brandon Aiyuk Over 50.5 receiving yards (-114)

Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Brandon Aiyuk has taken off over the last few games, going for 80+ receiving yards in 3 straight contests. The Chargers’ pass defense has stiffened up lately, but I attribute that more to the opponent than anything as they have played against Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Marcus Mariota. It helps that Aiyuk draws the most favorable matchup in the Chargers secondary, CB Michael Davis, who is ranked 66th out of 114 corners according to PFF. He’s allowing 8.9 yards per reception and a passer rating of 89.8. The returns of Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell leave a lot of question marks with workload and the pass/run split, though, so I’m going 0.5U on this one.

George Kittle Over 3.5 receptions (-140)

Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

I hate the juice, but I’d rather give a play I feel good about rather than worrying about $0.25. George Kittle hasn’t left the field since Week 3 this season. He’s logged below 90% of the snaps only once all season and he’s scored in 2 straight weeks. Sunday night will be the first time the 49ers offense will be at full force since trading for CMC. Deebo returns, Elijah Mitchell will be active, McCaffrey is grasping the playbook, and I think this all points to Kittle being overlooked. He’s hit this line in 4 of 6 games and gets a Chargers defense that’s allowing the 4th-most yards per reception to opposing TEs. In one game against the Rams while Staley was the defensive coordinator, Kittle had 10 targets, 7 receptions and 109 yards. The receiving yards line is at 40.5, but he’s hit that in only 3 of 6 games this season, so the receptions are the safer play. I’m going 1U.
