What a performance from Scottie Scheffler, who rubber-stamped his status as the best in the world at Augusta National on Sunday night, leaving some top-class rivals trailing in his wake to win a second Masters title. After his peerless four-shot triumph, Scheffler is in the field for this week’s main PGA Tour event, the RBC Heritage, but his participation is in doubt with wife Meredith heavily pregnant.

The PGA Tour’s best will all be making the trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for the Heritage, one of eight Signature Events, and at the time of writing that includes Scheffler, who is bidding to add a tartan jacket to his growing collection of greens. However, he’s a serious doubt to tee it up at Harbour Town Golf Links and, even if he does participate, this looks like a week to oppose him. Augusta and Harbour Town are very different courses – the first is long, wide and undulating, the second short, claustrophobic and mostly flat – but a demand for accurate approaches and an ability to scramble mean they have more in common than many think.

RBC Heritage golf picks and predictions

Tommy Fleetwood (+2000)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Matt Fitzpatrick won the RBC Heritage last season and he’s in with a chance again but the tartan jacket could go the way of another Englishman, with Tommy Fleetwood finally looking ready to break his PGA Tour duck. Fleetwood left it late at The Masters, charging up the leaderboard for a share of 3rd place, having finished 7th at the Texas Open the previous week. He has the tee-to-green prowess to tame Harbour Town and his experience of links conditions make him a good fit for a course where he has finished 10th and 15th in the last 2 seasons.

Patrick Cantlay (+1800)

Odds available at BetMGM at time of publishing.

Patrick Cantlay has been the betting favorite for this tournament in previous seasons and he’s come close on numerous occasions, recording Heritage form figures of 3-7-3-MC-2-3. He putted poorly when 22nd at the Masters but he can draw positives from his ball-striking performance and he’s going under the radar in a tournament he clearly relishes.

JT Poston (+7000)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

North Carolina man JT Poston produced his best career Majors performance when 30th at the Masters. He’s well suited to this course, having finished in the top 8 on 3 of 5 visits, and there’s every chance he contends again.

Cam Davis (+6600)

Odds available at BetMGM at time of publishing.

Cam Davis was in the thick of the action for a long time at Augusta, finishing a respectable 12th, and he also has an affinity with Harbour Town, finishing 3rd and 7th in the last two Heritages.
