NFL Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers expert predictions

The Seahawks have defied a lot of people’s expectations for the season, going from being an expected bottom-feeder to making it into the playoffs. However, they’re coming up against a behemoth here in the 49ers. San Francisco has been virtually unstoppable over the past couple of months, aided heavily by the acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey. They comfortably beat the Seahawks in both games this season and that will likely be the case once again here.

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers expert picks

We’ve got 2 standout NFL picks for the clash between the Seahawks and 49ers.

Seahawks vs 49ers point spread pick: 49ers -9.5 (-110)

This will be the third time this season these teams have met and not only have the 49ers won both matchups, but they covered the spread in both. Back in September, they won 27-7 in a game they were favored by 8.5 points and then they won again in mid-December 21-13 in a game they were favored by five. Heading into this game, the Seahawks, who were struggling down the stretch, managed to rally past the Rams in overtime to secure a victory in Week 18 and vaulted into the playoffs thanks to a win over Green Bay by the Lions. The 49ers, on the other hand, have won 10 in a row and look like the team to beat in the NFC playoffs.

We already know the 49ers defense is the best in the league, but now, it also looks like their offense is too strong to contain. The mid-season trade for Christian McCaffrey was a huge boost to this team and now that both Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell are back at full health, the weaponry on this team is massive. Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle have both stepped up their games and Brock Purdy’s play under center has no one asking where Jimmy Garoppolo is anymore. Through this 10-game win-streak, the 49ers have averaged 30.5 points per game.

The Seahawks defense is going to have its hands full in this one as their secondary, which has been their best defensive asset all season, has suddenly been under fire. That means, if they want this game to even stay close, they are going to need massive games from Geno Smith, Kenneth Walker, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. All four are capable of putting forth string efforts, but given the 49ers defensive strengths, Seattle will need more players to step up. The problem with that, is they just don’t have any.

Seahawks vs 49ers Over/Under totals pick: Over 42.5 (-110)

In the two games these teams played against each other this season, it was the under that hit both times as the 49ers beat the Seahawks by a combined total of 48-20. When looking at this match-up and laying the 9.5 points to take the 49ers, it usually tilts towards the under as one team, in this case the Seahawks, is failing to contribute on the scoreboard. If you think the Seahawks are able to cover, expectations push to the over as you expect more of a shootout. The question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you think Seattle can get past the 49ers vaunted defense.

When these two teams faced each other in mid-December, the game total was the same 42.5 we see for this week. The 49ers held Seattle to just 13 points while only scoring 21 for themselves. It was enough to cover the spread, but nowhere near an indication as to where this offense is right now.

Brock Purdy has looked just as good as, if not better than, Jimmy Garoppolo. He has proven to be more than just a game-manager and has led some fantastic drives. But now Purdy also has, in addition to Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, both Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell. His run and pass options have opened up significantly and the Seahawks, who have struggled defensively down the stretch, are going to have difficulty containing this offense. They may be better than the Arizona team the 49ers walked over last week, but they still aren’t at a level to deal with this much firepower.
