I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After nearly the entire NHL was in action last night, we have a light 4-game slate on tap for tonight. Given that 28 teams were on the ice, that means we also have teams on back-to-backs. That can make the betting markets a bit trickier to navigate, which is why we want to take advantage of the prop markets. Both of our NHL prop bet picks are focused on matchups with teams on back-to-backs, so let’s dive in.

Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Sebastian Aho over 2.5 shots on goal (-135)

Over 2.5 shots on goal (-135) available at time of publishing. Playable to -150.

Interestingly enough, three of the four games tonight have late start times, but we aren’t going to make you wait that long. The early puck drop takes place in Carolina with the Hurricanes hosting the Montreal Canadiens. It’s actually the ‘Canes on a back-to-back, yet we’re targeting them. That shouldn’t be too surprising, as the Habs have been struggling for a few seasons now.

We’re looking at Carolina’s Sebastian Aho who has solidified himself as one of the young faces of the NHL. If not for an untimely injury in the playoffs last year, it could have been Carolina in the Stanley Cup Final. Regardless, he leads the team in both points and shots, so you could really target him in nearly any way you’d like. Consider his assist prop, but given his shot-taking prowess, we’re not going to risk losing that to a goal and focus on those shots instead. Montreal allows the 5th-most shots per game, and Carolina takes the 3rd-most. That’s primarily thanks to Aho, and we expect at least 3 shots on goal tonight.

Leon Draisaitl over 1.5 points (+120)

Over 1.5 points (+120) available at time of publishing. Playable to +100.

The second of our NHL prop bet picks for tonight is focused on a skater that has come through for us time and time again. Of course, when it comes to the Edmonton Oilers, it’s all about Connor McDavid. However, as we’ve said many times before, Leon Draisaitl would be the McDavid for any other team.

Now he gets to not only face arguably the league’s worst team – the San Jose Sharks – but he also gets to face them on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. The Sharks were also on the road last night, so facing the highest-scoring team in the NHL is setting them up for a rough night. Draisaitl is a primary factor in Edmonton’s turnaround from a rough start to the season and needs to avenge his previous game against San Jose this year. He had just one point, which by his standards, is subpar. Draisaitl recorded multiple points in three of the four games prior to that against the Sharks, and they’re currently allowing the third-most goals per game. Picking on them has been very profitable this season, so we’re expecting that to continue by way of multiple points from Leon Draisaitl.
