Wednesday in the NHL brings a small 3-game slate. But what it lacks in quantity it absolutely makes up for in quality. At 7:00 pm ET, the Lightning play the Rangers in New York and the Stars play the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Capping off the slate at 9:30 pm ET will be the Wild playing the Blackhawks in Chicago. While Minnesota vs Chicago does not have as much luster, the Wild are mathematically still in contention and will be playing playoff-style hockey down the stretch. This sets up to be a great game between a couple of very good teams. In a game that may have a thin margin of error and come down to the wire, each team’s top players may log even more ice time than usual. The Wild had a brutal stretch last month but look better lately. They have won 3 of their last 5 games with the losses being close 1-goal games. Tonight, Minnesota has a favorable matchup in a game they need to win. As long as the Wild do not completely mail it in, they should be able to take care of the Blackhawks just fine. Chicago is in the cellar of the NHL and have lost 4 consecutive games with just 3 total goals scored.
If the Wild win the game, there is a good chance Kirill Kaprizov factored into the win. Kaprizov leads the Wild with 45 points in 42 games and is second on the team with 19 goals.
