The quarterfinals of the U.S. Open will be upon us on Tuesday. Yes, the business end of the year’s final tennis Grand Slam tournament is already here. It feels like the fortnight just began, but time flies when you are having fun and you have certainly been having fun if you have been tailing my best bets. I am 15-8 through 8 days.

Let’s keep the momentum going with my Tuesday picks! It should be another entertaining day in New York, headlined by Nick Kyrgios and Coco Gauff.

Karen Khachanov +5.5 games over Nick Kyrgios (-110)

Get your popcorn ready for yet another Nick Kyrgios match on the biggest stage in tennis. You never know what you are going to get when the spotlight is on him; you just know it will be entertaining. For the most part the 27-year-old Aussie has been showing his good self this summer, and he certainly did during a 4-set victory over Daniil Medvedev on Sunday. However, a +5.5 spread is sizable and each of the two previous Kyrgios-Khachanov matches were thrillers. Khachanov prevailed 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-2 at the 2019 Cincinnati Masters before Kyrgios pulled off a 6-2, 7-6(5), 6-7(6), 6-7(7), 7-6(8) victory at the 2020 Australian Open. With the Russian also in fine form this fortnight, he should be competitive once again.

Coco Gauff +2 games over Caroline Garcia (-114)

Caroline Garcia has been on fire dating back to the start of Cincinnati, where she captured the biggest title of her career a few weeks ago. The good news is that is simply inflating her odds and in this case creating value on the woman on the other side of the net. That is Coco Gauff, who is also playing incredible tennis at the moment. The 18-year-old American has not dropped a set at the U.S. Open and has been extended to a tiebreaker only once. This is only Garcia’s second Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance and she has never been past this stage, whereas Gauff played in the French Open title match this spring. I have Gauff winning this one outright, but +2 games is a safer play and you can still get it at a good price.

Ons Jabeur vs Ajla Tomljanovic over 21.5 games (-110)

Ons Jabeur is a clear favorite as the No. 5 seed (her opponent is unseeded), but Ajla Tomljanovic absolutely can’t be discounted. Tomljanovic put an end to Serena Williams’ career with an awesome display on Friday night and it was no fluke, either. The Aussie has now advanced to 2 straight Slam quarterfinals and 3 dating back to Wimbledon in 2021. She followed up her defeat of Williams by beating Liudmila Samsonova 7-6(8), 6-1 in the fourth round. Samsonova had won 13 matches in a row prior to that result. Jabeur has cooled off since finishing runner-up at Wimbledon and each of her last 2 matches has exceeded this number. Even in the first 2 rounds against lower-ranked opponents she played 20 games on each occasion. Expect a long one on Tuesday.
