Wise n' Shine: MLB best bets and NFL Week 2 odds for Tuesday, September 12

Good morning, Pickswise Nation, and welcome to another terrific Tuesday of sports. We are without football for the first time in several days, so we turn our attention to MLB, but we also have to look ahead to Week 2 of the NFL. So, let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Jets win Monday Night Football in a thriller
The story of Monday Night Football was Aaron Rodgers, who played only 4 snaps for his new team before leaving the game. Initial x-rays on his leg were negative, but many fear it could be his Achilles. But that didn’t stop the Jets from winning 22-16 in overtime as they took down the beasts of the AFC East in Week 1. We went 2-0 on our side and total picks in that game, meaning for Week 1 of the new season we went 12-4 on sides and 10-5-1 on totals! Get our NFL picks for Week 2.

Today’s Slate

17-game MLB slate
That’s right, it’s not the normal 15-game slate because we have 2 doubleheaders today. The Yankees and Red Sox are playing 2 at Fenway and the Royals and White Sox are playing 2 in the South Side of Chicago. Read all of our MLB picks for today.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Chicago Cubs -1.5 (-120) over Colorado Rockies
8:40 pm ET

One of the first teams eliminated from playoff contention was the Colorado Rockies. Of their 5 starting pitchers they began the season with, only one, Kyle Freeland, is still pitching. The other 4 have either been cut or sidelined with an injury. That gave an opportunity for Chris Flexen, who pitched himself out of a job in Seattle and was traded at the deadline. And after being cut by the Mets, he’s found his way to Coors Field. In 8 starts for the Rockies, Flexen owns a 6.98 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP and has allowed a .308 batting average and a 41% hard-hit rate. The Cubs have every advantage in this game, and since they get all 9 at-bats in the generous hitter conditions, I love their chances of a multi-run win. Check out our full Cubs vs Rockies predictions.
