Good morning Pickswise Nation! Welcome to Wise n’ Shine, your one-stop shop for everything you need to know to bet better today. Tonight we have the return of NFL action with the Patriots taking on the Eagles, plus a decent slate of MLB matchups to look forward to, so let’s get right into it.

About Last Night

Parlay party at Pickswise HQ
Nothing puts a spark in a standard Wednesday night like a cross-sport parlay winner, and that’s exactly what we had last night as our two MLB picks and two MLS wagers came together perfectly for a +629 win. Check back on the site later today to see what our experts have come up with for Thursday’s sports action. It was another winning day overall for our MLB team, which rallied strongly late in the slate to go 8-7 on sides and 9-6 on totals.

It’s getting hot in here!
Our MLB best bets are officially on fire. We’re currently riding a 6-1 streak–and we have two more for you already today with the chance of more to come. Meanwhile, our MLB props picks are on a sensational 17-5 run. Look out for today’s plays later in the day as we bid to improve on that record!

Oh boy! Ohtani reaches 40 HR mark
Shohei Ohtani is having a season for the ages and the Angels sensation had another amazing night in their 3-1 win over the Tigers. Ohtani reached 40 home runs for the season with a 430-foot blast in the eighth inning, and coupled that with 8 strikeouts. Away from that, the Braves swept the Marlins with an 11-9 win as Freddie Freeman recording his second career cycle in his first 4 at-bats. The Braves have won 6 games in a row and are +1800 to win the World Series and -195 for the NL East.

Today’s Slate

The NFL is back
We have NFL preseason action for the next 5 days, starting with the Patriots at the Eagles (NFL Network, 7.30pm) tonight. The New England starting QB job is still being fought over by Cam Newton and rookie Mac Jones; maybe one of them will take a firmer grip on it tonight? Read our full preview of New England at Philadelphia here.

Busy night of MLB action
With some teams in transit we have only 10 MLB games today, but there’s sure to be some great value bets to be found and our experts are on the case. The World Series-favorite LA Dodgers (+330) shut out the Pirates in a 9-0 win last night and they are taking on the Mets in today’s late game. Make sure you read our predictions for all of today’s baseball.

Best Bet of the Day

Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 vs St. Louis Cardinals
7:45pm ET

Ladies and gentleman, we have a pitching mismatch. The Brewers are sending their ace of aces, Brandon Woodruff, to the hill against St. Louis. He has pitched to an outstanding 2.18 ERA in his 23 outings, averaging more than 6.0 innings per start and holding opposing hitters to a batting average of just .182. The Cardinals are starting veteran lefty Jon Lester, whose ERA in 3 starts as a Cardinal is 6.75. Make sure you check out our full game preview for this matchup.

Stat of the Day

The Philadelphia Phillies (61-59) have gone 2-6 in their last 8 games after last night’s 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks and have fallen 3.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East.

Boost of the day

40+ total points scored in New England vs Philadelphia
Boosted to +140 with FanDuel Sportsbook

Points were fairly hard to come by in Week 1 of the NFL preseason but offenses are starting to gel now and FanDuel Sportsbook is offering a lift on the odds over 40 or more points in the Patriots vs Eagles game tonight, posting +140 odds instead of the original +110.
