US Open Day 4 Best Bets & Predictions: 3 Picks for September 2
Second-round action at the U.S. Open gets underway on Wednesday, September 2. Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula are among those taking the court. Here are the US Open best bets today for Day 4 in New York City.
US Open Parlay: Frances Tiafoe ML over Rei Sakamoto and Ben Shelton ML over Hubert Hurkacz (-114)
Tiafoe needed five sets to defeat fellow American Martin Damm on Monday, and that should serve as a serious wake-up call. A recent runner-up in Cincinnati, Tiafoe should raise his level for an easier day at the office in round two. And it’s not like he played poorly in round one; Damm is simply a dangerous opponent.
Both Tiafoe and Shelton love New York. Tiafoe is a two-time semifinalist; Shelton made a semifinal run in 2023. The left-hander is also in fine form right now, having captured his second Masters 1000 title last month in Montreal. In his entire career, Hurkacz has never made it past round two of the U.S. Open.
US Open Best Bet: Leylah Fernandez -1.5 sets over Mananchaya Sawangkaew (-110)
Fernandez may not be the most consistent player on tour, but when she is good, she is really good. It's worth noting that her last four wins have all come in straight sets. More importantly, the Canadian lefty is a former finalist at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (2021). She loves this event. Sawangkaew, ranked No. 94 in the world, had never played in the main draw of the U.S. Open prior to this fortnight.
US Open Prediction: Denis Shapovalov ML over Luca Van Assche (-131)
Yes, we’re staying on the lefty train... Shapovalov has a history of success in New York, where he advanced to the quarterfinals in 2021 and has reached at least the third round a whopping six other times. Van Assche is playing well, but his best result has come on clay (title in Estoril) and he has never done much at majors. The big stage is what really makes the difference in this matchup – and we have already seen it. Their only previous encounter came at the 2024 French Open, where Shapovalov dominated 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
