US Open Day 6 Best Bets & Predictions: 3 Picks for September 4
Third-round action at the U.S. Open gets underway on Friday, September 4, with Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula among those taking the court. To get you set for the action, here are the US Open best bets to make on Day 6 in New York City.
US Open Parlay: Daniil Medvedev ML over Arthur Rinderknech & Ben Shelton ML over Denis Shapovalov (-138)
This marks the second U.S. Open meeting showdown between Medvedev and Rinderknech. At the 2022 event, Medvedev coasted to a 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 victory. The former champion (2021) may not be playing at that same level these days, but he has at least looked very good through two rounds. That bodes well moving forward for Medvedev, who is generally all-or-nothing at majors. Dating back to his runner-up showing at the 2019 U.S. Open, the Russian has lost in the second or third round of a Grand Slam just three times.
Meanwhile, Shelton is sweeping the head-to-head series against Shapovalov 4-0. The world #9 is in superior form right now and also has home-court advantage in an atmosphere that he has been a part of plenty of times in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
US Open Best Bet: Tomas Martin Etcheverry ML over Mariano Navone (+100)
This is simply a fantastic situational spot for Etcheverry. Navone is coming off two dramatic matches that have surely sapped him of physical and mental energy. The world #49 scored the biggest win of his career in a five-setter against Novak Djokovic and then defeated Matteo Berrettini in a fourth-set tiebreaker. Those matches lasted a combined eight hours and five minutes.
Etcheverry, on the other hand, rolled over Vit Kopriva and Jake Fearnley while logging a total of five hours and 20 minutes of court time. Additionally, this is Etcheverry's sixth appearance in the third round of a major, and he made a run to the Roland Garros quarters in 2023. This is only Navone's second trip to round three of a Grand Slam, and he has never been past this stage. As if that isn’t enough, Etcheverry leads the head-to-head series 2-0 overall and 4-0 in total sets.
US Open Prediction: Karolina Muchova vs Emma Navarro Over 20.5 games (-108)
This could be the best match of the entire third round on the women’s side. Muchova is currently #7 in the rankings, and Navarro can be at that same level (she was once as high as #8). The 25-year-old American may not be in peak form at the moment, but she is playing relatively well this summer and loves New York (she was a semifinalist in 2024). Neither player is a stranger to long matches. Muchova's last five matches at Wimbledon - where she finished runner-up - all lasted 21 games or more. Navarro has already played a pair of three-setters during this U.S. Open.
